I read this quote online in a few spots:
"We felt there was nothing left for anyone else after this single dropped. Rock and roll had been perfected. It was either change genres or find new jobs." - Thom Yorke in reference to "Wonderwall"
Is this even true? I mean, it's kind of cool if he really said it, but can anybody actually trace this quote? Radiohead have never seemed like Oasis fans to me (they did do a mocking cover of Wonderwall once).

Cannot find text supporting this anywhere. I have found other fans on different boards quoting this and saying there's no validity either. If he didn't say it, the change in their music from the Bends to OK Computer certainly does lend some support to the quote. Yorke doesn't like Liam so I wouldn't think he'd throw comments to Oasis publicly.

Who gives a shit whether or not Thom Yorke likes Wonderwall?
There are more good songs on Definitely Maybe than in Radiohead's whole back catalogue, and none of them are about how fucking depressing life can be.
Anyway, let's all put our hands together and thank Thom Yorke and his comrades for
a) spawning great new bands like Bloc Party. Now a whole new generation of music fans can revel in how fucking shit everything is. b) showing us songwriters that it doesn't matter how shit your songs are, as long as they 'transcend genres'. c) reminding us why songs like Live Forever are so fucking awe-inspiring.

Nonsense argument, gentlemen
Point is that they are incomparable. Radiohead may have a lot of stuff that makes you just go... not for me. However, they still wrote OK Computer (arguably one of the best albums ever made), and The Bends, my favourite Radiohead album by far.
It wasn't until 2000 that they really wrote some fucked up stuff.... ESPECIALLY on Amnesiac...
I have no idea whether or not Thom Yorke would have said that. Perhaps he was saying that rock and roll was perfected, and Oasis were just a part. It's not like Liam wrote the song, anyhow

There are more good songs on Definitely Maybe than in Radiohead's whole back catalogue Dont be so fucking silly I'm entitled to my opinion. Off the top of my head - Creep, Just, Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit, Karma Police, High & Dry, No Surprises - basically just the singles really. They're pretty hit and miss as far as I'm concerned. And don't bother telling me I'm talking shit because I've heard the music and I know what it's about.
