Apologises if there has been a similar thread but I couldn't see one; Anyway me and mates were discussing the best decades for music (as lads do after 6 pints) and we started to attempt our Top 5 albums in each decade therefore I thought I'd list mine and ask other people to do the same; 60's (I like the Beatles) 1. The Beatles- Revolver 2. The Beatles- The Beatles 3. The Rolling Stones- Let It Bleed 4. The Beatles- Sgt Peppers 5. The Beatles- Abbey Road 70's 1. Pink Floyd- The Wall 2. Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin III 3. Pink Floyd- Animals 4. Sex Pistols- Never Mind The Bollocks 5. The Jam- All Mod Cons 80's 1. Guns 'n' Roses- Appitite for Destruction 2. Stone Roses- Stone Roses 3. Nine Inch Nails- Pretty Hate Machine 4. Michael Jackson- Bad 5. REM- Murmur 90's 1. Oasis- Definitely Maybe 2. Nine Inch Nails- The Fragile 3. Radiohead- OK Computer 4. Manic Street Preachers- The Holy Bible 5. U2- Achtung Baby 00's 1. The Killers- Sam's Town 2. Oasis- Standing on The Shoulder of Giants 3. Primal Scream- XTRMNTR 4. The Cooper Temple Clause- Kick Up The Fire 5. Funeral for a Friend- Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation Probably missed some absolute Gems but this is what alcohol does to you

Right, I'm going to try and restrict this to just one artist per album.
60s 1. The Beatles - Abbey Road (really really struggled to pick a favourite here) 2. Simon & Garfunkel - Bookends 3. The Kinks - Arthur (or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) 4. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 5. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
70s 1. David Bowie - Heroes 2. Kate Bush - The Kick Inside 3. Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town 4. Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 5. The Rolling Stone - Exile on Main Street
80s 1. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead 2. Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain 3. R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant 4. New Order - Power Corruption and Lies 5. A-ha - Hunting High and Low
90s 1. Oasis - Definitely Maybe 2. U2 - Achtung Baby 3. Blur - Parklife 4. The La's - The La's 5. Moby - Play
00s 1. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand 2. Ryan Adams - Gold 3. Arcade Fire - Funeral 4. Idlewild - Warnings/Promises 5. Sigur Ros - ()
Very tough, had to leave some out - Doves first two albums, Elbow, Arctic Monkeys, a couple of Coldplay albums in the early 00s, plus Bruce Springsteen with The River and Nebraska in the 80s, and U2 with The Unforgettable Fire in the 80s, along with Kate Bush's Hounds of Love. Likewise, with The Beatles, I'm struggling to choose a favourite one - might be Rubber Soul tomorrow, or A Hard Day's Night or whatever the next depending what mood I'm in.
I think the only artist I could have had put in three decades was Bruce Springsteen - as stated, the 80s could easily include him, but also the 00s with The Rising. Interestingly, Springsteen, Bush and Bowie are all my favourite solo artists (though in no particular order) and all top the 1970s.

my list would be an amalgam of most of what's been mentioned.
I'd probably put Axis: Bold as Love in the 60's, love that album - 'Little Wing', 'Castles Made of Sand', 'Bold as Love', 'If 6 was 9'
like the Red Hot Chili Peppers mentions. Blood Sugar Sex Magik has great singles and great album tracks, and what could be the best song from that album era, 'Soul to Squeeze', isn't even on the actual album.
also, love Up The Bracket by the Libertines...great album.
Thanks.

I used to really enjoy Blood Sugar Sex Majik and without a doubt its a good album (probably the chili's best. runner up to Mother's Milk) but a few years ago I just feel out of favor with the RHCP. Flea and Frusciante are great players. Chad Smith and Flea are a great rhythm section but god damn I just can't stand or listen to kiedis' rapping or singing. As a band (musically) they are fun albeit a bit repetitive. A lot of their stuff is just routine funk-rock jam stuff to my ears. I do think people over estimate just how good Flea and Frusciante are. Can't tell you how many times I've heard that Flea is the best bass player in the world. Couldn't help but slightly laugh to hear that their music was being used for torture. Although that is really fucked up. Now I feel bad... Give it Away is a fun song but damn I probably would go insane if I had to listen to that for an hour.

Yeah I agree the quality did kinda fall off after One Hot Minute, that album was just bleh, although I have a soft spot for Aeroplane. Navarro just kinda proved how essential John was to the bands overall sound and songwriting.

John definitely has a style and so does Dave - it's very evident when Dave played songs live that John originally played on. when John came back it wasn't the same magic. happens to all bands as they age. God bless.

For the 00s, I've criminally forgot to mention Demon Days by Gorillaz.
I got that as a Christmas present in 2005, remember listening to it that Christmas with headphones on lying on the sofa watching the Boxing Day edition of Match of the Day. Good times, it's the little things that make me so happy....
