Just out of interest, has Liam ever written a song with a chorus? I think not.

Didn't Liam write the chorus of Columbia or something like that? If so, it's his shining moment (along with "so Sally can wait")

liam needs that, liam needs this... but somehow the best track on DOYS is "I m outta time"... Even a blind pig can find an acorn, know what I mean? but too many "acorns' in Liam's case make that proverb with no meaning at all (imo)

If I'm to fall Would you be there to applaud Or would you hide behind them all Because If I am to go In my heart you grow And that's where you belong Sounds like a chorus to me. He admit he was waiting for years to write it though

IOT is the one exception and promptly, to me, by far the best song Liam's ever done. I'm Outta Time is possibly my least favourite Liam Oasis tune and that includes Ain't Got Nothin and Little James. And that's a shame because it could have been so much more. It's possibly the most fully realized of Liam's songs from a melodic standpoint with some really good lyrics, but for fuck's sake, did they have to make it The John Lennon Tribute Hour while producing it? It even sounds a bit like "Free As A Bird"! It's amazing how many times Oasis took the easy route in recording their tunes. INstead of taking a Lennonesque melody and taking it in a fresh direction, they of course decided to make it sound as close to a John Lennon song as humanly possible. With a John Lennon sample of course. Jeebus. Liam is no a great melodist. I mean, come on, let's not dumb down the term with excessive praise. Ray Davies is a great melodist. Paul McCartney is a great melodist. Brian Wilson is a great melodist. Liam has shown some definite melodic talent, but he's leagues away from being "great".

I'm Outta Time is the only spectactular/decent Liam track on DOYS. The other two are just plain boring and definitely not examples of great melodies.

I think he's written some average songs, but hes also written some absolutely amazing songs! He should be more well known for his signwriting than what he is, there's a lot of talent there.

Just out of interest, has Liam ever written a song with a chorus? I think not. The "let's get along" part in "Guess God thinks I'm Abel" sounds like a chorus to me, f.ex. That "chorus police" at work again! I like songs that don't follow the verse-chorus-verse formula. Who says every song has to?

Anyway I think Liam has got a great ear for melodies (just like his brother ), the problem is that he doesn't seem to be able to work on his ideas to get a "complete" song, d'you know what I mean? His songs are incredibly simple, which sometimes is a good thing (like Songbird), but most of the times they're just too repetitive. Maybe he's not bothered about spending more time on them, maybe it just isn't his thing, at the end the songwriting gene is a gift I guess, you're just born with it

He wrote the chorus to Columbia?? Is this true? Never knew that.
Songbird is his best song IMO.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Boy with the Blues or Pass Me Down the Wine yet! They're great tunes written by Liam.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Boy with the Blues or Pass Me Down the Wine yet! They're great tunes written by Liam. Pass Me Down The Wine is really underrated it is a lot better than The Meaning of Soul. Nice guitar lines thrown in there by Gem (surely?). Boy With The Blues is another one of his finer moments maybe my second favorite song by him. Sardy did a good job with this one. The pre-chorus is really nice "remember to shine" might sound like cliched Oasis but is kinda has some SOTSOG textures to it. The end is a bit too long though and it need a better guitar solo. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel is his finest moment so far. It isn't a classic song by any means but its a great song. Nice structure, melody, and the bombast at the end is great, just wish it was a bit longer. Songbird and Love Like A Bomb are good tunes, summer songs for sure. The piano on LLAB is superb. Neither over stay their welcome. I'm Outta Time isn't horrible but damn its really cliche and bland. Beatles tribute nothing more, would never call it a great song. Better Man, The Meaning Of Soul, Ain't Got Nothing are all very poor.

Liam's got great tunes sure, but his writing seems ... maybe laboured? to me. at least comparatively. tunes just seem to ooze out of Noel, he can use the same basic chord progressions over and over and it's magic every time. Liam has like 'bursts' of good short tunes like Songbird, and I think he works hard for every one of those. but then it's like he runs out of steam or something, it just doesn't seem to come easy to him

It sounded great live, and this is another of those tunes where poor lyrics are offset by a melody that works well.
