As per usual when I start these threads: Just downloaded the album, giving it a spin as we speak. THS are a brilliant band, and have a consistent quality that is hard to come by, especially considering how many albums they've made. www.metacritic.com/person/the-hold-steadyAnyone else a fan? What do you think of this new album? EDIT: Chalk this up as one of the contenders for Best Album 2014.
You can keep your Reflecktor* and your AM. I'd pick this poetic artistry over either any day.
*I know that was 2013, but you lot are still raving about it like it's some mystical relic that is the best thing since women learned how to slice bread
I digress, Teeth Dreams is a fantastic album. There's a very Bruce Springsteen feel to it all.Only two tracks in - Incredible song, with a nice - albeit too short - guitar solo near the end:

The fuck is wrong with this forum? NYR, Lennon2217, and John William Anglin all being American, I know you're aware of this band. And I know there are followers of THS on here because of a thread done a few years back. I can understand why Los Campesinos get overlooked on here, but I can't understand the ignorance of THS. And I'm not 'avin it. Are THS too American for the forum? Craig Finn is MILES and MILES ahead of Alex Turner. In fact, he's in a league of his own, given the utter complexity of what he does and his ability to pull it off: Finn is a fucking genius for his song writing. The references, the character studies, the story telling and the repeated story lines running concurrent in albums, and across albums, too is just utterly phenomenal. All over fantastic unadulterated guitar rock 'n roll. What the hell is there not to like? Very Bruce Springsteen at times, too. Very clever all the time. There's no band out there like THS.

I don't really care for the singer's voice, and that's not to say he can't sing but I don't personally like it. that's where a lot of my problems with the Arctic Monkeys start...
not a big Arctic Monkeys fan and not just because of the singer's voice, way overhyped but talented but not mind-blowing, not even in the same galaxy as the bands they're compared to. I'm rambling...
and while i still haven't listened to the entire Reflektor album, the song 'Reflektor' is the best song i've heard in quite some time...
Thanks.

Thanks. From a previous, and perhaps their best album. This band caters to this forum. I don't get it..... He liked the warm feeling but he's tired of the dehydration.

Give this one a try, from the new album. One of the many highlights....
The guitar work is simply brilliant, over poignant lyrics.
Waking up with that American sadness.

The heart wants what the heart wants and my heart doesn't really want THS or Los Campesinos. I believe in music without boarders.

I'm willingly to admit that they are a good band. They do some of the best Springteen influenced music around but given the fact that I'm not really a fan of the boss I don't really dig them. I'm not a big fan of Finn's voice either. His lyrics are pretty nice but I don't think he is better than Turner. He may be more "real" with his depictions of American life but Turner is excellent with wordplay. They are two distinct styles of lyricism, so it really isn't fair to compare them.
On With Business is a nice enough song, but for the most part THS come off as just a little too serious for me. They do sort of cater to the forum because they have huge choruses and they are guitar based but they are distinctly American, which can turn some people off.

I like them. "Sequestered in Memphis" is a TUNE.
