my review : Beady Eye - Second Bite Of The Apple

The return of Beady Eye with David Sitek on production with a new album about change and experimentation
found in "Second Bite Of The Apple" their best representative.
That new single, for so many reasons, had to be different, had to sound different.
It had to be the proof of the band's new direction, their landmark to the modern rock territory, a bump on forehead for their fans and for the doubters.

First listen never meant to be an easy case for anyone.
An ugly little monster, a weirdo tune, with raw and sometimes out of tunes vocals, arrived in our ears and brought everyone in shock. What the hell is that? Mission accomplished.

From that moment, with the second listen, the song starts to grow and grow and show it's real beauty and power.A dark, mysterious, groovy vibe and rhythm,a mix of 60s underground psychedelia with 70s smoothy soul haunting that pop -in it's heart- track. A brand raw brass section follows and push the song in another level, givin' it a triumphant feeling, makin' it almost a party tune when Liam starts singing "The word is up if you’re tough enough". Before you realise what's going on and if that's the real refrain, the song kicks you with an orgasmic, ecstatic "Come on! Show what you love now" and everything makes perfect sense.

Lyrics are simple and provocative playin with the idea of the apple of Eve with the new challenge of Beady Eye's music or they are just about the sin, well in a Beady Eye world of expression.Keeping the words simple or even -for many people- without an actual meaning, bring the words to the background and makes you concentrate to the music and the vibe. After all, the song is about the groove , the booze and the feelings and that its real power when you are gonna moving, dancing or jumping up and down with it, in a bar or a festival.

"Second Bite Of The Apple" give a fresh new sound to the band, it' s clever and sexy, a brave and wise choice, that gave Beady Eye a few credits to the world of the critics. It's a tune that we could hardly hear in an Oasis album, far away from their lad/brit rock safe territory and that makes it hard for fans to like it. If that tune was by any other band i m sure that even pitcfork would love it!

I can't think of "BE" without that tune. A highlight, a great moment for Beady Eye, a song that they should be proud of.
