Anyone into Television?
Marquee Moon has got to be one of the best rock n' roll albums of all time. Every song on that album is amazing. See No Evil, Venus, Marquee Moon, Friction, Guiding Light on one album? Insane I could write a paragraph on each song. Their first two albums are their best.
The dueling interplay of their guitarists is sublime. Any guitar player has got to love their leads. Tom Verlaine's lyrics and vocal style are great. Really great punk band. Melodic, smart, and raw.

I was actually thinking of starting a Television thread...love Marquee Moon.
everyone goes on about the Strokes sounding like the Velvet Underground but I hear a lot more Television.
I also think Richard Hell's Julian Casablancas' father, but that's just one of my crazy theory's that probably isn't true.
God bless.

Yeah I always felt that the Strokes were more like the Velvet Underground in terms of style and just sheer "New York" coolness. Musically there isn't that much in common between the strokes and VU. The strokes and television are both guitar-centric in nature. They are always cartoony in how melodic they are. The licks are full of character. A much better comparison to the Strokes. I've played Marquee Moon 3-4 times today. It's always been a favorite but I haven't listened to it in a while. It's timeless.

Very impressed when they played Camden Roundhouse last year. Subsequently bought 'Adventure', which is a pretty good album too.

Oh I love this album. I love it when an album is so good that it doesn't even need more than 8 tracks to prove its point.
Adventure's Decent but I've not listened to it enough to even remember all the tracks off it. A good listen but its hard to compete with Marquee Moon.

Marquee Moon... I only heard it for the first time a few years ago. Within the first minute, I was kicking myself for not hearing it sooner.

I saw them on monday and it was a damn fine show. Heard so many classic songs. Tom Verlaine and Jimmy Rip were one of the best guitar duos that I've ever seen live. The crowd was kinda shitty don't know if that's because it was older or just an abundant of hipsters, but I mean come on got to get into it. You're witnessing one of the best rock n' roll bands of all time. Billy Ficca's drumming was never really the most powerful because he tends to lean to the jazz style of rhythm but on monday he was kinda spotty in some of the rockier parts of the gig. Probably due to old age, he handled the jazzier stuff really well probably because jazz drummers age better than rock styled drummers (for the most part).

I wasn't knowledgeable on anyone in Television to be honest but the music was superb, so a massive loss. It was five years ago around this time of the year I first listened to Marquee Moon. Bought it second hand in a music store and it's telling how great music is if you can pinpoint a specific part of your life to it.

Wow that’s so strange as I’ve been itching to listen to Marquee Moon and Adventure lately. Sad to hear. He made some truly memorable music. As much as I love the first album, I think “Days” from the second is my favourite song of theirs.
Going to have to listen to both albums now.
