The Twang are releasing their 4th album, "NEONTWANG", on March 5.
The album name comes from the band's original name - The Neontwang - before changing their name to The Twang.
Here's the thread for the anticipation, and for the thoughts after listening.
Their last album, 10:20 had some decent tunes on it - Take This On, Paradise, and Whoa Man. But none of those are excellent on any level. 10:20 angered me - as an album, it was far too flat and dull, leaving it completely forgetable. They clearly played it was to safe.
Regarding the below -
Larry Lizard opens very promising, they're digging their soul out with grove. I like pretty much everything they'redoing in this track. However, it's way too long - and it's only 3 minutes and 46 seconds long. It should have been cut by 1 minute and some change. It just doesn't go anywhere in the end.
I actually really like the chorus in Wobble, but the song is too slow in parts, catchy chorus though. Something different from the lads. Also this track is included with the album (I'm unsure of Larry Izard's fate, though).

Just listening to it now. Yet again another album from the band the critics love to hate. Shame. I love me some twang.
Thoughts?

Finally at laptop.....
The Twang have changed. Not the euphoric chorus bursting songs that their debut promised, and their follow up attempted. Their third album, 10:20 was ok - decent songs, but no real stand outs, played it safe. Far too safe.
Can't help but feel a bit deflated again with this 4th release.
With their album name coming from their band name pre-debut, I was hoping for an album that sounded like those early demos.
City Lights, the opener, actually is reminiscent of those early demos. In both lyrics as well as the overall sound. With an experimental (for the Twang) twist. But that's really it, as that concept of the early days flickers out immediately.
As referenced above, Larry Izzard is alright, but doesn't go anywhere. New Love has grown on me, but suffers the same problem as the song that preceded it. Where's the end product?
The Wobble - still really like this one. By far one of the highlights. Trippy, infectious chorus, very unlike The Twang, but very much The Twang at the same time (which sums up this album).
Sucker for the Sun has moments I like, surrounded by moments I'm unsure of.
Bigger Than You is a nice ballad, but where's that magical Twang moment that would have made this song sparkle if it was on album 1 or 2? Still, one of my favorite off the album.
Decent band, don't understand the hate. At worse, they are mediocre. But are the worse than most indie dross? No. Hence the biased, unfair, misguided hatred.
I KNOW there's a couple of Twang followers kicking around here:
Where are ya? LET'S BE 'AVIN YA.
