I think HC and DBTT have more of a similar sound than any other two Oasis records. DBTT has, in general, much better songs and is a better album, but the raw sound of these two records I think is quite similar. "Lyla" sounds like it could have been done seconds after "The Hindu Times", with nobody changing instruments and nobody changing levels.
Anyway, my question is, do you think the next album will have that same general sound? Have Oasis finally, with Andy and Gem becoming pretty settled in, found a steady sound that they will have for the rest of their existance?

Their direction seems to be towards a more acoustic, less heavy sound. I'd like them to continue that way; something bluesy, more rootsy. As good as DBTT is, it's still carried by Noel and Noel clearly has no interest any more in writing typical Oasis ballads and rockers. You can hear that in every post-BHN record that Noel's writing style changed. Most rockers and ballads he's done since then have been pretty uninspired (some good ones - LTBL, The Hindu Times).
Besides, no need to remake their stuff from the mid-90s; it's there, it's in the past, they should do something new.
One big improvement from HC to DBTT was that they got a good producer. Noel just produced HC and didn't do a great job with it, IMO. It would be great for Sardy to stay on to produce the next one and if not him then someone else - maybe John Leckie or even Stephen Street?

You're dead right about the sounds. I actually made myself a "composite" album to listen to in the car, like the best bits of both made into one record:
01. TURN UP THE SUN 02. MUCKY FINGERS 03. THE HINDU TIMES 04. STOP CRYING YOUR HEART OUT 05. THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE 06. SONGBIRD 07. GUESS GOD THINKS I'M ABEL 08. LITTLE BY LITTLE 09. KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE 10. A BELL WILL RING 11. BORN ON A DIFFERENT CLOUD 12. LET THERE BE LOVE
It sounds top!
Personally I still want Owen Morris back behind the desk, but I'm glad that the band are trying newer, less obvious stuff these days. Is about time.

I agree. I think DBTT is a fantastic album, i just think it misses one more rocker song. maybe Eyeball Tickler...or sumthin like it in the middle sumwhere. it seems to get a little bit too acoustic in the middle. but that's my opinion. the feeling of both the albums are similar, i just think DBTT has more quality songs and i do think this is their new direction.
- cheers !

interesting observation, i ahve to agree. i totally agree with slideaway. esp the bit about noels writing style having changed. i dont liek it as much, but i dont expect him to write like he used to cos it would jus tbe contrived and terrible. i think liam is developing to be amazing and i really look forward to his songs, i love his songs on dbtt.
