Hi all,
This is my first message, but I have been an avid viewer of the forum. Absolute quality. Good to see I'm one of many die-hard Oasis freaks!!
Question: who do you think should produce the next record? Dave Sarkey did a good job, but he's not really that innovative in my opinion. He allows bands to do what they do well. I'd love to see Oasis work with a producer who would push them to new areas. Say Rick Rubin? He'd be my pick. I hope the boys don't play it too safe for the next album. They could do some pretty cool things with Liam's voice. Punk it up a little. Just a thought anyway.
Well, who would you go for?
peace,

Noel, in a US interiew during the tour said it would be great to work with Morris again.
But as far as I know, I've heard an interview with Noel saying that it will be with Dave Sardy the next one. Heard that 1-2 month ago.

i do think noel will bring back owen and coyle at some time. noel's so obsessed with DM that he'll prob want to revisit that magic at some point. liam wanting to do it is another story ... since he's said many times he doesnt like DM.

im pretty sure its gonna be sardy...noel's mentioned it a few times...im keeping my fingers crossed for coyle and morris though. i have no problem with anotehr definitley maybe sounding record! seriously though, i think working with morris - it would really work fantastically, or it could crash and burn. who knows? dbtt is officially over and now we can look forward to a couple of years of speculation...fun fun fun....actually it is

sardy will be on the next album, which is good. i think he is still pushing for an old school, harder oasis sound - noel was the sole reason that dbtt was 60s-ish. i liked dbtt, but i want to hear some harder stuff and i do think sardy is in our corner. he just produced the new wolfmother, and that will blow your doors off.

the more i hear tiobi, the more its becoming a classic for me. i think noel is going to keep it in the setlist, and thats a good thing. its a non-traditional sounding tune, but very catchy ... one more example of noel's genius (in this case, the subtle variety).

To be honest, I think Owen Morris was a bit overrated as a producer. He was a fantastic engineer for Definitely Maybe but I'd rate his production of Morning Glory only pretty good; at times the record sounds a little too slick and I think a few tracks could have stood to have a slightly crisper, more hard-edged production (Hello, Roll With It) . The song Morning Glory could have been produced a little better too - you can't hear a lot of the layers in that song because they're buried so low in the mix.
The other thing with Morris is that he sort of let Noel go a bit unrestrained in the studio. I think Morris did a much better job with, say, The Verve's A Northern Soul than he did with Morning Glory or especially with Be Here Now. I really wish that Oasis had a strong producer all along - someone to temper Noel's excesses and provide a clearer creative direction for them. Both BHN and SOTSOG could have been fantastic albums had someone leaned on Noel to exhibit stronger quality-control and HC could have been a lot better had the production been up to par.
I think Dave Sardy's been good. I'd LOVE to see an Oasis record produced by Stephen Street, John Leckie, or Tony Hoffer to make something that sounds Brit-poppy but not quite what they've done before.

Johnny Marr.
and I'm not kidding cos he produced some great albums (not for Oasis) for some British band and for various artists.

I've thought of this myself.. I would think Noel will pull another fast one on us !
Sardy did a great job "digging them out of a hole " so to speak... he stripped the songs down... that's what oasis is - guitars, bass and drums... HAIR, SHOES, VIBES AND ATTITUDE !

Youth would be my pick. The guy has worked on some amazing albums over the years and he's given Embrace a big kick up the arse.
Rather him than Rubin, anyway. No offence, but I think the guy responsible for "Walk This Way" should be kept away from Oasis' music with a 90 foot barge pole.

It would be seriously cool if they could capture the feel from the live gigs. I'm not talking about a "Let it be" kinda record. Think about tunes like DYKWIM or Gas panic and how much better they sound in the heavy live versions. The less polished sound really does those tunes some good. A good example is the choir sounding stuff on Gas panic. At the gigs noel plays that bit on his guitar, and it sounds better (less polished). The most amazing thing would be if a new producer could get Liams live voice into the heavy tunes.

Liam doesn't sound great live these days. He doesn't enunciate and generally sings in monotone.
Personally I'd love to see them try something experimental again. SOTSOG, to me, is a very promising album and I think now they're settled in as a band they could produce something really special - especially now they've got a wealth of songwriting talent.
Course, a couple of anthems wouldn't go amiss.

heathen chemistry - produced by the band. that was 1st class production IMO. simple, yet very effective. but otherwise if the music would fit i'd agree with that personally id like to see a reunion of sorts for the next album...noel, mark coyle, owen morris, and some coke. ;D but honestly, oasis have progressed so much since DM that this reunion couldn't make much sense. p.s.: haven't been here for a while now, but it's great to be back. i see some things never change. anyone remembers me?
