They where saying stuff like: led zeplin, guns and roses, pink floyd and son on. The first thing that popped into my head was Swamp song, Oasis. Anyone agree, whats your opinoin???

Live Forever and DLBIA get my vote.
CS live is awsome too - the Budokan 98 version is glorious.

Best Oasis one is either CS live or Gas Panic from FTM.
My vote for best ever is Sweet Child O Mine by GnR.

yea best Oasis I'm not too sure, on the DM DVD didn't they say that the second half of the Live Forever solo was cut? Just wondering what happened with that if they put it back in or if it's gone?

ok its not Noel but i think John Squire's leads on CS at Knebworth piss all over anything they've ever done before or since. But it IS an Oasis solo,so i think that it counts.God its fucking good too.......mental........

Noel isn't that great of a guitarist. I can do any solo he does easily.
Best solo? Classic Rock, Dazed and Confused by Zeppelin. Love that solo.
And then there's a lot of solos by zappa that I fucking love dearly.

Being difficult to play doesn't make a solo good or bad, it's how it sounds. Was it well crafted, melodic, emotional? A 5th grade violinist can play Beethoven's 5th. Does that make it crap? No! It's still a creative masterpiece regardless of whether or it is necessary to be a virtuoso in order to play it. The Beatles' music is not terribly hard to play but it is some of the best songwriting of the last 50 years.

For me:
Champagne Supernova - Oasis, Budokan 1988 (very best of the best CS ever) Begging You - The Stone Roses, Paradiso 1995
Forgot to mention one more...
Step Into My World - Andy Bell (Hurricane #1)

Someone should listen to 'Get Me' by Dinosaur Jr.
Awesome melodic solo at the end. Let me know if someone gives it a try.

...and of course everyone too young or not into the harder rock/metal from the U.S. in the 80's should still give 'Eruption' by Eddie Van Halen a listen.
Like was said just b/c it's difficult doesn't mnake it good but if you never have heard give it a shot.

Squire ruined Champagne Supernova. You can't take the most psychedelic song in nearly a decade of music and shred over the top of it. Johnny Marr did a better job, and any solo Noel cooks up for CS pisses all over that effort.
Don't get me wrong; Squire's a legend on the geetar but that wasn't exactly his finest hour.

What? ?I loved what Squire did to CS.He made it more of a Led Zep type song and it is still psychadelic but all the extra notes make it even more so.I could get stoned to it.its fucking brilliant.I havent heard Johnny Marrs version yet tho,so i wont say that its the best i guess, but i still love it!!!!!!!!!

Just listened to the different versions now to make sure I'm not blowing smoke, and Squire's is still shite. Turns out I'm not too keen on the Marr version either.
Noel's solo on FTM wipes the floor with the pair of them.

I always loved when someone played different on a well known song coz it made it fresh.I just listened to the Johnny Marr CS,the FTM version and upon further listening.....i've decided that the Luna Park 98 solo(the longest if i'm not mistaken)with Noel playing lead is by far the best coz its uncalculated and he just kinda improvs over the ending chords.....he just fucking rocks it in other words...........

in terms of guitarists, john squire beats noel hands down. As for CS - squires version of it pisses all over any version noel has ever done. I bet Noel felt ashamed to be in the vicinity of squire that night.
anyway in terms of solos on oasis songs, i'd probably say listen up, and live forever. That bitch liam made noel cut down the listen up solo though and who knows how epic it could have been had he not.

my favorite solos from oasis are in Listen Up and Live Forever as well. But i also like the solo on It's Getting Better Man!! and i agree with what a couple people said earlier....the solo doesnt have to be hard to be good. it's not how many notes you play in a minute....it's what notes you play in a minute. i think Noel is the best at coming up with catchy lil solos and what not. especially in their earlier stuff.
- cheers !

on the DM DVD didn't they say that the second half of the Live Forever solo was cut? Just wondering what happened with that if they put it back in or if it's gone? Owen Morris originally edited out the 2nd half of the solo (the part where it goes relaly high) but Noel moaned and he put it back in. You can still hear it in the song. Best Oasis guitar solos, in descending order: 01. Live Forever 02. Champagne Supernova 03. Don't Look Back In Anger 04. D'You Know What I Mean 05. Rockin' Chair (doesn't have to be loud to be top) Of course if you're a big solos fan, you should just listen to BHN on a loop, cos there's one every 10 or 12 seconds.

Defintely 'Live Forever' - I have a moment of reverence to pay attention to that solo every time I hear it. So relieved the whole solo is there - the second half is the best bit, IMO.
Sadly the same can't be said of the 'Listen Up' solo, which Liam persuaded Noel to cut. I adore that song & would love to hear the full original version.
Also love DLBIA, GLIO, WDIAGW? & Shout It Out Loud - & so many more.

I bet Noel felt ashamed to be in the vicinity of squire that night. Oasis are headlining to 250,000 people over two nights, and Noel feels ashamed because Squire played a ten minute guest slot whilst, if I'm not mistaken, still officially a part of the Stone Roses? As if. The great thing about Champagne Supernova is that it's such a chilled out song, even when there's about eight guitars blasting at once. Squire turned it into Led Zeppelin, and if you ask me it was no more than a failed attempt at overshadowing The Chief. Besides, half the time there's barely any fucking definition, so it's hard to even hear most of the notes he's playing.

As far as John Squire's Champagne Supernova solo, I personally think it succeeds at being more challenging to play than Noel's, but it doesn't have anywhere near the impact that Noel's does. I would much rather hear a Noel version anyday. He may not be technically as good as John Squire or other guitarists, but Noel always seems to know how to play solos that sound better and have more of an impact.
