Been listening to lots of The National recently, Alligator and the Cherry Tree EP especially. They're easily one of my favourite bands who just seem to be getting better all the time. They finally got what they deserve with "High Violet" in 2010. and don't forget the "Virginia EP" too.  |

They're playing the BBC music festival in Manchester tomorrow night and as everything today was streamed live on the BBC website I assume their set tomorrow will be streamed as well.

mimmihoppsSo I finally saw "Mistaken For Strangers". I rented it to watch on my flight down to Florida for vacation. A good watch but nothing spectacular. I enjoyed all the band scenes and life on the road. My biggest gripe is that the documentary didn't really have an ending. Tom getting fired mid tour definitely put a damper on possibly more and cooler footage. I mean the last 15-20 minutes of the documentary is Tom and Matt discussing how to end the film. Kinda a cop out when viewed within the finished film! Either way, better to have more National material in the world than less. I still believe more people on this forum should listen to this GREAT American band. Matt is a poet.

Tom is a living chaos and you can see Matt's dilemma as his brother, but also the front man of the band in the film. I think Matt's wife has put all those pieces together to make it a "film" . It's totally different than "A Skin, A Night" by Vincent Moon (you can't compare to him with Tom anyway!). The National are truly fantastic. I've never been to the US, but I always say to myself "America is alright cos they've got Patti Smith and The National". (No politic comments about this please). |

This project seems exciting and fun. Matt also has a great way with words. So unique in its delivery. For example.... "I bought a saltwater fish for a colorblind witch." |
