We all know Noel's greatest fallacy: The tracklists.
But I'm giving NGHFB a spin again, for the first time in ages. Great, fantastic album. Brilliant, in fact.
Dream On has grown on me, and Jesus Freaks - although it's the weakest - has, too.
There's no weak track on this album.
And, dare I say it, Noel got the tracklisting as good as he could possibly do so.
Sure, we'd like Freaky Teeth (Live Version), and Come On Outside, and even Simple Game of Genius. But remember, even DM, WTS, MP, and even BHN had equally good songs as those on the album - just not enough room!
The only grievance I have with NGHFB is that we never got the best versions of STC, and especially RM. I so want the guitar laden 8 minute epic with Liam vocals that Noel once banged on about. Has/had the potential to be one of their best songs ever. But it's just "ok/good" on the album.
But Noel finally, finally delivered a good tracklisting (although DBTT's was pretty solid, too).

Pretty much agree on everything you've said. Tried to find a point you made that I could argue with.......couldn't find one. I love the album.

It is the best Noel's songwriting has been since the late 90s. Outstanding debut even though it was an extremely predictable move by the chief. I honestly wanted the AA album more. Hopefully it surfaces. Since we are playing the "perfect" tracklisting game, here is mine: - Everybody's On The Run - Dream On - If I Had A Gun - The Death of You and Me - I Wanna Live In A Dream In My Record Machine - AKA...What A Life! - Freaky Teeth - Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks - AKA...Broken Arrow - (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach - A Simple Game of Genius *Hidden track: Stop The Clocks 3-5 minutes after A Simple Game of Genius ends. To me the weakest track on the album was always Stop The Clocks. Never dug the tinny sounding intro mellotron on HFB. Sounds cheap and artificial if that makes any sense. Freaky Teeth deserved a place on this album. Would have fit the vibe of the record perfectly and given it another cool rocker with edge. Alone On A Rope should have been a kick ass b-side or saved for HFB #2. Damn fine track. Noel's magic is back!

Everybody's On the Run Freaky Teeth If I Had a Gun... (Demo Style) The Death of You and Me Let The Lord Shine a Light On Me Alone On The Rope Record Machine (Oasis Style Demo) AKA... What a Life! (Stranded On The) Wrong Beach A Simple Game of Genius
Record Machine should have been heavier, more bass and no weird kid noises.
If I Had a Gun... was ruined by Sardy and the demo / acoustic versions were more in theme with the song. I prefer Shoot A Hole Into the Sun to If I Had a Gun's album version.
I'd have liked Wrong Beach to have been more like the live version, again like Record Machine, heavier. Still one of my favourites from the debut.
I'm looking forward to hearing what Noel comes up with for album #2.
I can't see him including Freaky Teeth on the album, it'll be a b-side or bonus track at most (which is a massive shame)... Please say I'm wrong about that though and I hope he doesn't use Come On Outside. Although he does an alright vocal it doesn't suit his voice and that "Cow / Cloud" lyric is horrendous.

Simple Game of Genius should have closed it instead of Stop The Clocks for definite. Otherwise it's the production that ruined most of the tunes and there are 3 songs I genuinely dislike, which is a first for any Gallagher record I think. There's a distinct lack of fun on the record compared to when they are played live.

I put the demos together as per the 2010 CD:
01 Stranded On The Wrong Beach 02 Freaky Teeth 03 !!Oh Lord!! 04 She Must Be One Of Us 05 I’d Pick You Every Time 06 Dream on 07 If I had a Gun... 08 I Wanna Live in a Dream In My Record Machine 09 Come On Outside 10 Fallen Angel / Broken Arrow 11 Soldier Boys + Jesus Freaks 12 Just Let It Come Down Over Me 13 Everybody’s On the Run 14 The Death of You and Me (A Tailgunner’s Lament)
Plays through pretty well and I was wondering if it was Noel's original tracklisting for the album? The demos don't seem to be in chronological order or grouped to recording sessions and play through with a nice mixture of faster / louder songs and softer / quieter ones. Another (possible) hint is that Noel says on the LP DVD that the album was going to be called 'Somewhere In Between' - a lyric from the first song on this compilation.
The obvious missing songs are Stop The Clocks which he may have considered too old and associated with Oasis and What A Life - perhaps this compilation was pre-the piano version?
Idle speculation - I doubt we'll ever know for sure but it does make for a good playlist for the demos.
