I've seen polls on here saying Bag It Up is the worst opening song. I disagree.
The song is awesome. And it makes sense, it's about the paranoia of drug use. It's a stomping song, setting the tone for the album.
Nice riffs, and the penultimate time they sing "hiiiiiigh" in a different pitch is really cool, too.
And I absolutely love the ending, with the pounding drums and then the explosion. Sounds very British, the ending does. And the ending blends in well into The Turning (DOYS is actually very good at being cohesive. The Turning needs an appreciation thread, too, but I can't be bothered right now).
How cool would this song have been if played live?
Bag It Up and The Turning, Oasis fucked up the DOYS tour setlist. That's for damn sure.

How cool would this song have been if played live? Bag It Up and The Turning, Oasis fucked up the DOYS tour setlist. That's for damn sure. This is one of the highlights of Dig Out Your Soul. I was extremely interested in this tune since Noel mentioned it and it's "Baron Saturday" like feel in the autumn of 2007. Noel exaggerated (imagine that?) a tad with it sounding just like "Baron Saturday" but it's still a kick ass opening tune. In terms of the DOYS tour not featuring "Bag It Up" or "The Turning" well there a bunch of suspected reasons for it. I know during radio interviews Noel mentioned they didn't sound right during soundchecks. Could be Liam's voice or it just not jiving well when performed as a band. It's a crime because they might be the two strongest songs on the album. Oh well...........

I'm very undecided about Bag It Up and the album as a whole really. Definitely not the worst opener but the whole album is just too mixed for me, if that makes any sense.

The first half of DOYS is really strong, loved the sound & the flow of the album, the songs belong to the best they' ve daone after BHN. Don' t agree with opinion it would be a great opener live, they have better ones (after seeing the fucking in the bushes cover I can imagine them playing this live, maybe a shorten version )

You are talking about an album that came out swinging, Bag It Up straight on through to I'm Outta Time is amazing stuff. Then it falters big time and that is what breaks an Oasis fans' heart the most.

I think Bag it Up is a great opener, but in my opinion it's the weakest opener out of all the Oasis albums. Mainly because all the openers in Oasis albums are brilliant. I think one of the main reasons people don't like DOYS is because its not the Oasis sound that some people keep banging on about, I just appreciate good music and think DOYS is a very good album regardless of who made it.

I can just see Liam standing still, staring down the crowd during the pounding drum outro, clapping as it ends, and thanking the audience with a "Cheers." Ugh, why Oasis? WTF is dross like AGN being played, especially when MOS is there, too?

Its a terrific song, a DOYS and post-2000 highlight. My favourite part is the "someone tell me I'm dreeeeamin', the freaks are rising up from the floor" part.

It saddens me that we'll never get to hear this or the turning live. Even if they reform I don't think they'll risk enough to play these kind of songs, instead they'll stick to the classics. The moment has past, unfortunately.

I reckon the kids would have loved this song if they released it as the first single from DOYS, would have got them a new audience IMO. I don't understand why they never played it.

this is what it's about here. you feel what some stranger around the globe is feeling. and he might be the only one feeling the same thing as you. it's not about the Noel/Liam debate (is it still on??!) fantastic. DOYS. on NOW.

I had a dream once years ago when we were getting the DOYS tracklisting rumours that the band opened their set with this song (without having heard it then), following with GLIO then Columbia then Morning Glory...is that setlist sounding familiar?

That would have been an action packed setlist opening. Tack on Lyla and Shock of The Lightening and the roof would explode.
