This is a great writeup i found on someone's myspace, it was in the music section where everyone lists the trendy bands that they like..
thought i would share it
"I love Oasis, and I don't care what that does to whatever cred you might think I have. I could rattle off a list of the bands I'm supposed to like, bands I pretend to like, and bands I think you might like me for liking, but you can tell as much about a person by the embarassing blemishes peppering their ipods as by the indie record du jour I can't believe you haven't already heard all about. If you think Oasis is bad, download the BBC session Cat Power cover of "Wonderwall" and bow down before the power of a great love song performed by a fantastic vocalist. At the end of the day, I would be much more likely to take "Definitely Maybe" with me to a desert island than anything by Broken Social Scene or some other collective of forward thinking Candaians who happened to strike the fancy of an obfuscating Pitchfork writer who lives with his mother so he can afford the most possible purchases for his Technics SL1200. Not that I don't like BSS, or DFA1979, or CYHSY!, or whomever I'm supposed to like next, I just don't think any of them have written anything with the primal, damn-near universal appeal of a mid-nineties Oasis single. Maybe it's because I happened across them when I was an impressionable teenager, the way whoever dictates NME's taste picked the Stone Roses' self-titled as the greatest album of all time probably because he was living the champagne of beers high life in 1989. But if I could only take one disc with me to a barren shore that somehow had the power to play said album, it would not be an Oasis record, it would be the greatest album of the nineties, over Nirvana, over Pavement, over Radiohead, "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea." But you can be damn sure that when I wasn't listening to the soaring warbler that nests in Jeff Mangum's throat, I would be singing my own renditions of Oasis, because I know every damn word on the first two records and I refuse to remain ashamed of that any longer."

nice little rant there.
its interesting how oasis are viewed....are they 'cool' 'indie' for older people, or considered has beens?
im pleasantly suprised at how popular they are at my school like....they're one of the 'cool' bands to like but definitely not a mainstream kind of band. which i like, i never feel totally comfortable if im like everyone else. its strange in a way, people says teens like to conform, well id prefer to stand out anyday. and that the thing about oasis, perhaps im overstating my importance - but people liking oasis in my grade is significantly thanks to me advocating them, making so many references in school assirgnments in conversation, and lending out albums....i get a bit of credit for raising oasis' profile here. im rather proud =) i did it all without being one of those annoying 'oh you suck if you dont like my music people' (well i try very hard not to be. occasionally im dumbfounded by people claiming that nickelback is better than oasis, but even then - cos this REALLY happened - i just numbly walked away cos i honestly didnt even knwo wehere to begin. i figure if people are that far gone there is no point trying to convince them otherwise)

I always get slagged for saying that Oasis is my favorite band...People mostly just scoff Either 1) they think Liam's voice/sneer is annoying 2) they think they broke up after Wonderwall.
But they ain't ever gonna burn my heart out...

Before Lyla i had fuckers coming up to me in my Oasis shirts and saying Didnt they break up?I get SO sick of that. And yeah a lot of ppl dont like Liams voice and think that the songs are gay,but fuck 'em coz without Oasis i wouldnt listen to the Beatles,Stones,Who,Led Zep,any of it.Buying an Oasis album can be a great education in the past 50 years of music and culture.IMO
