Just saw that on rollingstone (traditional oasis haters) the featured thread is a debate about which is the better band oasis or coldplay. A bit silly , there is only one answer but coldplay are ok, but first time Iv'e seen 'oasis and featured' together on roillingstone. I tried to post but couldn't log in for some reason. forums.rollingstone.com/showthread.php?t=318rollingstone is just like the grammies, totally irrelevant.

I like Coldplay, I don´t get why it´s like if you like Oasis you have to hate Coldplay and if you like Coldplay you have to hate Oasis, that´s kinda silly cause they`re both great bands, but Oasis is the best one!

Because it's a music magazine and if they didn't compare bands then their readers would have nothing to read, and that would make it more worthless then it already is.

read your post....good one, except for the saying that MG was too mainstream. It was mainstream because it was a great album at the right time. Perfect timing is the key for every "mainstream"/super popular album. MG still is No. 2 after DM...nothing else after touches it.

It's a stupid arguement, mainly because it all depends on the person's own personal opinion. You can argue all day about how X & Y was overrated or how Oasis only had 2 good albums. In the end it all goes down to the person's opinion. Personally, I like both. Nothing wrong with that. I also find it how people hate Oasis because they ripped off The Beatles idiotic. Yes, Wonderwall and The Long and Winding Road both have referrences to "winding roads". Does that mean Noel completely ripped off Paul? Bull.

I think we should all post, after all rollingstone seem to have this as a featured post so maybe they want to see how many people still like oasis. I agree its a stupid debate, I like coldplay but like oasis far far FAR more.

Here's the thing,
Coldplay should just be renamed to Chris Martin and three other mediocre musicians. I don't think thier fans know or care about the dynamics of the group. One of the criteria of being considered a great band, the fans need to know the line up(s). The Who, U2, The Beatles, Stones, Stone Roses, Led Zeppelin. We all know more about these bands than just the lead singer.
Coldplay is just a one dimensional band, simply put. I don't think they are crappy but just will never go beyond thier same formula for songs. Not to knock U2, but I think Coldplay is on its way to becoming another "safe" band. The kind of band whose music everyone at work can agree to. Therefore you can't compare these 2 bands. Oasis is a fans band, and by that I mean a true rock and roll band with pride in the lifestyle of being madferrit. Coldplay fans are considerate of each other and connect with chris martin's views of maketradefair.org. Of course there is overlap but generally speaking that is the case. I think the movie 40 Year Old Virgin said it best. You should watch it ( I don't want to offend anyone by repeating the line the movie)
It is like comparing riding a Harley (oasis) to a tandemn bicycle (coldplay).
