Any fans?
I'm not a very religious person but that old time stuff like 'Jesus Met The Woman At The Well' 'Wade In The Water' etc is just beautiful to listen to.

No but Wade in the Water is a great tune, I much prefer this version though...

^ I love Eva Cassidy. Such a lovely voice and such a sad story I was watching a documentary the other day and they showed many gospel artists. I particularly enjoyed The Staple Singers

^ I love Eva Cassidy. Such a lovely voice and such a sad story I don't know too much about her but I do remember that my mum used to play her Best Of CD to me when I was a kid and "Autumn Leaves" was played at her funeral a year ago so that really brought it home just what a hauntingly beautiful voice she had. And yeh, she was a great talent taken much too early, shame...

Ya, that is sad to hear. We played Eva's rendition of 'Fields of Gold' at my Nan's funeral. Achingly beautiful song.

Grew up in the church, and throughout my childhood I've been in churches that sing hymns and I've been around the more modern stuff, where the church band sounds like some kinda shit mix of u2, coldplay, and the fray, but damn gospel music is on point. I've been to a few churches that sing gospel and I gotta say its an environment that can be extremely moving. I don't know if its a cultural thing or not, but it is great. Its raw and its a celebration, regardless of how you feel about God or religion its certainly something to experience and honestly it gave me a feeling and a connection that no other christian music has. Great music has universal quality to it and some of those classic gospel songs are just great songs/performances.
