Listening to some of the gigs when he toured with Tom Petty in the 80s and he is in top form.
His vocals from the 80s are among his best and although he brought out some poor albums he redeemed himself with the 'Oh Mercy' album.

I posted this on another thread not long ago: all Dylan covers deepen the fact that he is a lyric genius but the man can't fucking sing.
He's a great songwriter and troubadour, but I never liked his voice and that's what's always putting me off from his albums and shows.

Agreed , with the Wilburys in that era he wrote a song parodying Springsteen I forget the name but he used alot of Springsteen references ... It was a great tune .. He did some great work in the 80 s for sure

Love the tour with Tom Petty(my favorite artist). Especially love the harmonica in Knockin on Heaven's Door. Think I got into music too late to appreciate Dylan though...

I'm not lying, I don't like his voice, BUT I like some of his songs. I adore Patti Smith and she covered his "Changing of The Guards" in her cover album "Twelve" 6 years ago. It was the first time I heard this song and I loved that. I still really love this song.

"Changing of The Guards" is up there with 'Like A Rolling Stone' as one of Dylan's best opening songs. Willie Nelson & Calexico does a good version of a Street Legal track called "Senor" that you might like Mimi!

I saw Bob Dylan in concert for the first time ever about 3 weeks ago. It was outside in Hoboken, NJ stage facing the town, crowd facing the NYC skyline. It was beautiful and a nice breeze was blowing off the Hudson river. I'll be honest, Bob didn't sound too hot. His voice has long since left him but I went to see the legend and the experience. Well worth it. Wilco and My Morning Jacket opened. Both excellent as always. Setlist: Things Have Changed Love Sick High Water (For Charley Patton) Soon After Midnight Early Roman Kings Tangled Up In Blue Duquesne Whistle She Belongs To Me Beyond Here Lies Nothin' A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Blind Willie McTell Simple Twist Of Fate Summer Days The Weight All Along The Watchtower Ballad Of A Thin Man

^ What a great set list, support from Wilco and MMJ? sounds incredible.
Really, every Dylan fan knows what to expect from shows - a shit hot backing band, wildly unpredictable song arrangements, erratic performances from Dylan himself and a voice that, while not without its charms, makes Liam's current vocals sound polished and well maintained.
Of the last few albums since Time Out of Mind where he's been massively on form I love Mississippi - there's 3 recorded versions and they're all different and up there with his best ever songs.

My best Bob experience is when he let the crowd sing the chorus to 'Just Like A Woman' The gig was in a circus tent! Brilliant night.

I saw Dylan at the MEN Arena a few years ago, the atmosphere was pretty flat unfortunately - if he'd have played the same set in a more intimate venue I'm sure it'd have been a great night.

I've been lucky enough to see Wilco twice live. Both times amazing. They sound as good if not better than on record. Jeff Tweedy is a modern American genius when it comes to music. See them if you can. Great setlists, variety every night.

The new bootleg series is just wonderful. To think he released 'Self Portrait' as we know it when the stuff on this release sat in the vaults.
Dylan never fails to blow me away.

Bob's movie 'Masked and Anonymous' is my viewing for tonight. Some wonderful lines of dialogue in it and in particular a majestic rendition of 'I'll Remember You' www.imdb.com/title/tt0319829/?ref_=sr_1
