Recently I've seen loads of YouTube comments stating 1997 as being Liam's best year for his voice. Is it just me that thinks 95/96 was much better? Here's Hello at Knebworth '96 :
By comparison I find 1997 was the turning point for his voice, it sounds flatter and less flexible and it never really improved after this point...

I'd probably say '96. His live performances that year were off the scale and he recorded Be Here Now at the end of that year/start of '97 which has some stunning vocals etc. D'you Know What I Mean? and The Girl In The Dirty Shirt
I don't get the comments that say his voice was best in '97 either, he sounded pretty much the same as '96 just more fatigued after the relentless touring and drug use

1994 to 1998.

Definitely. I would say that 1994 his voice was too clean, with 95/96 being the peak. 2000 was okay, but it was a different sort of sound from then on.

1994 to 1998 but his Knebworth performances are pretty below par.
Fans seem to overrate it for some reason.

I feel bad for newer fans who never got to hear Liam in his prime. It makes all those "Liam's voice is back" threads sound trivial. His voice has never been the same since the Be Here Now tour. He once had the voice of a God. Now we fight over and make excuses for any of his post 2000 vocals. I'm envious of Pearl Jam, U2 and Radiohead fans. Their singers still sound like they did 20 years ago.

Liam's the only singer I can think of whose voice evolved on a yearly basis. The two extremes are probably 1995 where he would wring the neck of any note he sang up to the present where he's doing that thing where he pulls out of words sharply without completing them (watch Four Letter Word at this years T In The Park)
It always amazes me how little difference there is when Morrissey sings now to when he did back with The Smiths.

Bob Dylan's vocals changed in a huge way from the start of the 60's to present day.

But the start of the 60's to the present day is pretty much 50 years of his singing voice, so a change in his voice is inevitable. We're comparing Liam's from '94 to now, that's 20 years in which there was a huge change.

The decline started around 2002 but that's another discussion!

There's too many nuances of people voices over the years to really go into greay detail about them. I've seen people watch one dodgy performance from an otherwise good era and write that era off with stuff like "the beginning of the end" when the next show was back to its best.

Definitely 1997-1998, before that sounds great as well, 2000-2003 sounds pretty good as well, after that i'm not really impressed anymore, even though the Abbey Road gig some months back was pretty good.

I think 2000 had the perfect mixture of everything that made Liam great.

This years Abbey Road set was good but was a different sound entirely, it's been a different kind of sound since the SOTSOG tour or around that time. Since then it hasn't really improved.

Their singers still sound like they did 20 years ago. tend to agree with everything you say but this is just wrong (to me anyway!!) dont really wanna explain, but I'm just happy with every tour being different. I'm all for '95 Liam. but when I hear Live Forever from Manchester 2005, I think his vocals are stonger/better/bigger. and that rehearsal from 2008, he's spot on. some vocals are his best, I think.
