After listenin to the overly bloated Be Here Now, I finally got around to buying this CD yesterday, and i've gotta say, this album is the best Oasis CD I've heard, well besides WTSMG The instrumentals are mostly done by noel so they're all focussed on in each song. Little James is weak, but all the rest rule. I hated that they never played Where Did It All Go Wrong in Vancouver last year. Unfortunately my CDs got stolen so I only have Be Here Now and SOTSOG left. DM is far far away I can't stand Be Here Now, except for The Girl In The Dirty Shirt. Anyways... how underrated is this album? It's fucking brilliant!

Yeah, it´s underrated. There´s many fuckin great songs like Gas panic, Roll it over, Where did it all go wrong etc..but I can´t say it´s brilliant because of Little james and PYMWYMI. Very good album in my opinion.

I think it's the best, sounds fantastic, very well balanced.
A shame that they're not playin songs from it. Underrated yes, i really believe that, SOTSOG is Oasis at its peak, in terms of bein experimental.

To call it the best Oasis ever...no you can't do that Definitely Maybe kills SOTSOG
In terms of experimenting yea it's pretty damn good. I've always advocated for the last couple of songs excluding PYMWYMI, although I think if they had done that song in a diffrent way it could have had some potential, But, to call it the best album ever that's just not true.

I don't think I'd say it's their best, but it's definitely their most underrated. I think it's MUCH better than Heathen Chemistry and I think the best songs on the album are better than the best songs on BHN and as good as anything from MG and DM.
The problem is that it's their most inconsistent album and some of the production could have been better. I do like the production overall, but I think they sort of just went half-way; they should've gone further with the electronica and trip-hop flourishes. Also, a couple songs could have been shorter, namely both Who Feels Love? and Sunday Morning Call. They're both very good; Sunday Morning Call is one of Noel's best songs lyrically and even musically, but it's better acoustic.
The big problem besides some of the production is the song selection. PYMWYMI, ICSAL, and Little James are terrible. Also, I've always thought Go Let it Out is kind of weak. Had they dumped the three aforementioned songs, included Let's All Make Believe, completed, say, one or two other b-sides (perhaps Carry Us All and One Way Road) or spent more time writing one or two more rockers it would have been every bit as good as DM and MG (and BHN for you BHN-lovers).
Really a shame, because I think it was actually closer to being a great album than even BHN - there was genuine depth to a lot of those songs and tons of potential; but a poor tracklisting and some "safeness" to the production of some tracks led it be uneven and unfairly maligned.

i think little james is a fantastic song and i agree SOTSOG is there most underrated album. the thing is i think its consistantly good and experimental but i disagree that the main songs are better than on HC (Go Let It Out/Who Feels Love/WDIAGW/Sunday Morning Call VS The Hindu Times/SCYHO/Little By Little/Songbird)

I don't think Oasis had 'lost it' as people say on SOTSOG. Although it sold the least (based simply on singles) it could have been fantastic if they just managed the songs they had written better.
I made my own SOTSOG from songs written during those sessions w/ 'one' tweak.
1.FITB 2.GLIO 3.WFL (but I stuck in the FTM version as it has more defined rythym guitar) 4.Carry Us All 5.Let's All Make Believe (why in HELL was that a B Side) 6.One Way Road 7.Gas Panic 8.ICSAL (not as bad as people say...better thanPYMWYMI) 9.WDIAGW 10.RIO 11.SMC
So I deleted PYMWYMI & L James. Added Carry Us All, LAMB & One Way Road.
Made sure no two Noel sung songs are back to back.
If WFL sounded like it does on FTM, it would have been so much better (that was the tweak).
I play that modified SOTSOG cd all the time.

it's their worst disc, but not as bad as people say. singles are good, and some b-sides are brilliant. but it's really hard to make a disc as good as the 3 first.

I've also being playing a modified SOTSOG recently, taking out Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is and I Can See A Liar and putting on Let's All Make Believe, Carry Us All and the demo of Revolution Song, which is easily good enough to be on the record.

It's their best. Very psychedelic. It's great because of it. Because they are very, very drugged-fueled. Very psychedelic . I love it.

Beatiful album, the first Oasis album I've ever heard. I only can't understand why such great songs as Let's All Make Believe, Carry Us All and Full On were only b-sides.

It's an album with some brilliant work let down by too much absolute guff. Miles better than HC, but not a patch on the other 4 IMO.

well this album was mostly just liam noel and alan. before andy and gem. and i personally think its amazing and one of the best. i personally think DM is vastly overrated. sotsog was experimental and they tried something new and id have that anyday rather than the same old tunes

Standing... is a very funny album. What's good on the album is fucking great. There are great songs like "GLIO", "Gas Panic", "WDIAGW".... however, where Noel goes wrong he really fucking goes wrong.
On every other album the weaker songs really aren't even that much weaker.. it's a matter of subjectivity that I like one more than another.
However, overwhelmingly songs like "I Can See A Liar" and "PYMWYMI" are fucking awful tunes and Noel simply can't say anything in defene. The vast majority of fans will agree that these songs are just bad in every respect.
As a whole the album is great. It has one of the best productions of all the Oasis albums as it really has a cohesive sound and is very consistent. Essentially, overall I'd say it's only really better than HC
