This thread's probably been done before, but:
Are there any demos you prefer to the final songs?
Personally, I prefer the demo of 'Columbia' to the DM version (although the DM one is awesome too) - it's looser and a bit more mental.
I also prefer the demo of 'Fade Away' - I think the speeding-up for the final version takes something from the song, even though the demo does sound a bit flat.
The 2 versions of 'Carry Us All' are very similar, but I much prefer the demo of that too.
Listening to the demo of 'Rock'n'Roll Star', it's interesting to see what they did to the song - it's so much tighter & way better.
And I think the album version of 'Let There Be Love' is a hundred times better than the demo (I know there are people who disagree with this) - I think the demo meanders; it's too long and if you listen to the lyrics, it's actually about nothing.
Any thoughts? I haven't heard many of the HC demos - how do they compare?

I don't know if I would say I prefer the demo to the final verison, but the Songbird demo is very different (from the album version) and damn good!

The demo version of Stop Crying Your Heart Out is absolutely mega. It's very, very different to the finished track but equally brilliant, which is what makes it so interesting. A lot of the more recent demos just sound like the same song but with Noel singing.

The new Let There Be Love demo is better than the album version; not the one from the SOTSOG sessions, but the one they released with the DVD single.
The HC demos are actually all quite good, except for The Hindu Times. I'm sorry, but I can't stand Gem's voice in that song.

Isn't the Hindu Times demo the one with the beat/drum machine with Noel singing?

I think the songbird demo is out of this world, it is almost a completely different song, the album version is excellent too, the songs are perfect for whatever mood you're in. I feel like the LTBL demo, from the DVD single seems more together, like the album version is missing something, though I would like to have heard Liam singing in the demo too

Sounds like the 'Songbird' demo is worth getting.
Another I forgot is the demo of 'Roll It Over' - I absolutely love it. I love the album version but somehow when Noel sings the 'sit with me around my table/ but never bring a chair' lyric, it sounds less silly (that lyric always sticks out to me as crappy), and he brings something more to the song that lacks in the final version. A great song.

Couldn't agree more! The album version should have been like the demo! Seriously, why the hell did they change it? Don't get me wrong - the album version is very good too; but the demo is AMAZING; it sounds completely anything Oasis did before or since, it has MUCH better lyrics (probably about Meg). It seems like they just went and sanitized the song, gave it meaningless lyrics and a more typical "Oasis" sound.

Well, the real drums in the album version are better... But I agree, I like the lyrics in the demo better... I also like the double chorus bit - where there are two different things being sung at the same time...
