I've been listening to Fleetwwod Mac's Rumors on Spotify for the last couple of weeks, I had never heard the album before, and I was admiring how great of a singer and songwriter Stevie Nicks is. Got me thinking about other female artists I enjoy. Unfortunately there aren't that many I enjoy as much as their male counterparts. My favorite female artist by far is Fiona Apple. Her second album When he Pawn...... is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. The only other album by a female artist I find myself going back to is Live Through This by Hole. I know a lot of people dont like Courtney Love but that album IMO ranks up with the other great "alternative" rock albums of the 90's. Opinions? What are the female artists you enjoy listening to?

Kate Bush is second only to Bowie in terms of "solo" artists I listen to. I've been listening to a lot of A Kiss in the Dreamhouse by Siouxsie and the Banshees, absolutely brilliant album. Cocteau Twins, Portishead...
In terms of newer musicians, been loving Bat For Lashes, Laurel Halo, Melody's Echo Chamber, St. Vincent, Eleanor Friedberger, and Julia Holter lately.
And Fiona Apple is brilliant! Managed to catch her at the Music Hall of Williamsburg last year and she put on a phenomenal performance. Never really listened to her before, but my girlfriend convinced me to go and I'm glad I did! One of my favorite shows last year.

Gabrielle Aplin Adele Enya Lana Del Rey Stevie Nicks Dido Kelly Clarkson Kate Bush Ann Wilson Nancy Wilson Amy Lee Melanie C Andrea Corr Sarah McLachlan Alicia Keys Natalie Merchant KT Tunstall Carole King Madonna (Earlier albums were awesome though MDNA has put me off a bit) Shania Twain Karen Carpenter Sade
Just a few of the top of my head. Lots of fantastic female musicians out there. These are a few of my favourites.

Well Besides the ones mentionated on other posts I can think of these: Andrea Eccheverri this performance with soda stereo is mindblowing Shakira(her album Donde Estan Los Ladrones? and her MTV Unplugged performance OMG yes 8) afterwards... a no no, I'll pass, her hips are pretty nice though Dolores O'Riordan

I started the similar thread a few years ago on here too.
I love Stevie Nick's voice and "Rumour" is still one of my all time favourite albums.
I really love:
Godlike Patti Smith (saw her for 3rd time 2 weeks ago. I adore Patti) Cat Power (saw her finally last week. What can I say about her? "What a voice") Kate Bush Chrissiy Hynde Lisa Germano (still too underrated, but brilliant musician) Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) Jill O'Sullivan (Sparrow and The Workshop) Agnes Obel K.T. Tunstall Laura Marling Kirsty McCall (RIP)

I have no idea who writes the songs, a few artists with female vocalists i can think of now are Slowdive, Chromatics and St.Vincent.
My music library is a hell of a sausagefest, might check some of these out

aynone ever heard of polly jean harvey? it's shocking that she hasn't been mentioned yet... apart from that...beth orton, cat power, kate bush, thom yorke and the sax player from the zutons (whatever she's called) what's the best all-girl band for that matter? to me it's a tie between the shaggs and the slits! no, actually it's a walkover for sleater-kinney...

Janis, definitely. Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), Grace Potter. For a different type of music: Rachael Yamagata, Laura Marling, KT Tunstall, Lisa Hannigan

Don't know many tbh, obviously Alicia Keys and Adele have great voices for the types of the songs they sing and I'd agree with Stevie Nicks as well, she's great...

Bic Runga is amazing, especially her 2nd album. This is my favourite off that album. She has heaps of great catchy singles too.

Wow, totally forgot PJ Harvey! She's absolutely brilliant. Can't believe I forgot her as Let England Shake was probably my favorite album from 2011. Forgot about Bjork too, she is absolutely stunning.

Isobel Campbell, she is fantastic. Her solo and collaboration albums with Mark Lanagen are amazing. I agree. I nearly cry when I listen to "Hawk" she's done with Mark Lanegan. I saw Lanegan with his band for the first time last year. It was different kind of music, much harder, but it was still great. I would love to see him with Isobel someday.
