speaking for myself.. it is not only my love for british rock and their music .. but there is obviously something esle we connect to, beyond that.. ~the attitude - how they stand in the face of opposition repeatedly and speak their TRUTHS.., HONESTY... frankness... ~ the hair, shoes, shades and clothes - it's just nice to look at .. really.. makes me feel good... fine examples of lads.. ! ~ the fact that they were " nobody's coming outta nowhere " (I think I am using an Ian Brown quote ?) their perseverence.. ~ Liam's energy.. ~ Noel's cleverness.. Ok your turn...

- The arrogance. Oasis knew they were the best band in the world, and they had the balls to remind everyone of that fact. I've never been one for humility or subtilty either.
- Mr. Noel Gallagher. I'm the older brother myself, and I'm far more intelligent, sensible, and talented. Not to say my younger brother doesn't have his positive traits, but I completely respect Noel's position and attitude towards Liam.
- The uncompromising spirit. Bands who put songs from their own heart on their albums instead of some packaged cookie-cutter bullshit were (and are) pretty damn rare. I've always respected the meticulousness with which the albums were put together, and not just assembled around one radio-friendly song.
- Live Forever. Called out to every desperate yearning I had when I first heard the song, and in a bigger sense, I think a lot of their songs really capture some of the common themes of being human.
- The time. My parents were in high school when the Beatles were in their heyday, and I was in high school when Oasis was at the peak of their popularity. I bought WTS after hearing them on the radio, and bought DM less than a week later. It's what I listed to every day after school, every day on the way to school, to bring me up (Be Here Now, AATW, IGB(M)!, AATW reprise), or to ease me down (DLBIA). Oasis will always be my band for that reason -- they spoke to me when no one else did, at a time when I needed a soundtrack to walk to.
- The best god damned year of my life. 5 (and counting?) Oasis concerts, around the continent, with great new friends to enjoy them with.

The music, plain and simple.
Everything else I identify with is purely coincidental; I could have nothing in common with any of them and it wouldn't make a difference. They'd still be the greatest band of all time.

The most important thing about a band is the music. I’ve been a bit fed up with MG for quite some time now, but it was my first record. I got it because of Wonderwall (how original). The thing I remember the most about it, was the fact that the next song was just as insanely good. I had never heard DLBIA before. Then I gave my first cd a spin. Fucking hell, that was powerful stuff! There was absolutely no music from that time that I liked. That’s why it meant so much to me when I heard it the first time.
What about the way they handle themselves onstage? No fucking skipping around on the stage or other girlie nonsense. That’s what being cool is all about. If a band feels the need to have firecrackers and bouncing carrots onstage while playing, then it’s probably because the music alone won’t cut it.
They never fuck around with the basic recipe. That’s a good thing because I don’t like surprises. I like the arrogance too. Liam quote: “I you don’t love yourself, no one else will”. It’s a visual thing too isn’t it? Rem and U2 looks like shite if you compare them to oasis. They both started out in the 80’s so that kinda explains it.
Oh and another hugely important thing: nobody ever writes any oasis songs unless they are band members. That is fucking important too!!
great thread Tam

I'll put a twist in here...they helped make my personality
My first ever album of Oasis was xmas 1997, I got BHN....i was 10 years old at the time
thought they sounded good and thus bought: Def Maybe in 1998 along with MP, SOTSOG-2000, HC-2002, WTS-2004 (i know, really late, wtf...lol), DBTT-2005
considering i was 10 in 1997, i didnt pay attention to the lyrics cos, as most 10yrs old, i didnt really understand or care
that ignorance continued until about 2003 (16 yrs old)
then i understood them. I understood what they were on about. All their lyrics, their attitude, their quotes etc...
I now sometimes have that arrogance of Noel come out in me, and they have molded me into the belief that I shouldnt give a fuck what I say or do as long as I believe in it.
I used to be shy in school, v scared to voice my opinion in class. Well, for the last 3 years that component of me has gone complelty. I always say whats on my mind. I disagree with teachers/coaches now (but in a polite way)....Simply put: i take alot more risks now. of course, most of this comes with maturing and growing up....but Oasis have def had, and continue to have, a huge impression and influence on me.
Also, they are themselves. They don't play the game. They don't go out and try to be cool, try to be someone they are not. As someone above stated, they depict what being a human is all about. They dont give a shit what people think about them--and thats how it should be. I really admire their attitude.
They really are pure rock 'n roll, arnt they

I really admire that about them too. And I think Oasis is changing my personality too. Since I got to know them I've become more and more cofident /little by little but/ and more often than I used to I can speak my mind now and try not to care what other people think about me. So, step by step I'm becoming a different person and I'm happy with that

For me I would have to say that for a good run, Oasis was the most important thing in my life. I watched there and then over and over. It was the reason I picked up the guitar. I wanted to emulate Noel on the acoustic. I had first gotten into them when Live forever premiered on MTV as a buzz clip (along with Bush "everything zen" and Flaming Lips "Tangerine" go figure).
I was 16 at the time and I would have to say that it was a good time to get into them because at that age you need heroes to look up to. Luckily Oasis came around or else I'd be idolizing fred durst or that idiot from creed. So of course I developed a cocky behavior sort of liamesque.
At work, with mates I am very brash and I thankfully owe it to the bruvas

To me, their music was, and still is a feeling; like, when I first heard 'Live Forever', just like Castlecraver put it, there was a yearning to that song that blew me away, and I was a fuckin child at the time. Their music is more than just music in that sense; it's an attitude, a state of mind, a swagger you adopt while you romp through your council estate. Music, unfortunately, so rarely has that effect, where an artist or a group can come along, and they change the way a person thinks; to just change their world, as opposed to how they look or try to think (or try to look). For me, Oasis did that; their songs, alongside U2, allowed me to learn how to love music, and how to appreciate the power of a good song, and Noel Gallagher is the reason I picked up a guitar. The first time I heard wonderwall, it broke my fuckin heart, and it was years til I got a real appreciation for the song (consequently, seeing em in 2002, and hearing Noel turn the song on its head blew my mind, and changed my fuckin world...tis a nice story, but for another time). The lads are the soundtrack to my life, as I'm sure they are to you guys as well, er else we wouldn't be on this forum every fuckin day; but yeah, thats an amazing thing, if Ashcroft is right, and he and Liam truly understands what that means, then I suppose they do have that Jesus feeling goin through their veins.

The lads are the soundtrack to my life, as I'm sure they are to you guys as well, er else we wouldn't be on this forum every fuckin day; but yeah, thats an amazing thing..... I totally agree with this. 'Wonderwall' was the first song of theirs I heard, and theirs was the first music I got into. I was in year 8 and I remember I had it taped back to back on this cassette & I used to listen to it over and over, just turning the tape over every time. I knew it was a special moment. A few weeks later ABCTV did a RAGE special showing all their videos to date, and I remember thinking, "they've got 'Live Forever', 'Supersonic' and 'Whatever' as well as 'Wonderwall'? How can I never have heard of them before? So of course it's all about the music, but I have to say that so much of it is about the band and the Gallaghers themselves. I love lots of music but not many musicians. The thing that constantly, and I mean constantly reconfirms my love of this band is that every new interview with Noel that I track down contains ;)something that either makes me laugh, or which perfectly expresses what I'm thinking. You can always count on him for a good interview. In the recent NME cover with Noel & the cup of tea, he says in the interview, talking about fans accessing music on the internet, something like "they 'google' it - that awful word". Brilliant! I love his old-fashioned-ness. And they still slag people off. This reconfirming happens with the music as well - I love that I can get hold of a new song and it will blow my mind. This happened with 'Shout It Out Loud', 'Carry Us All' and '(You've Got) The Heart of a Star', which I've only recently tracked down. It was great falling in love with these new b-sides long after the joys of 'Definitely Maybe' and 'What's the Story...?' Oasis have been and are still a huge part of my life.
