My younger brother is a huge Nirvana fan ever since "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came out. His favorite Nirvana album since 1993 has been In Utero and I tend to agree with him. Really love the production and it represented just how mentally twisted Kurt Cobain was at that time. He always complained that "Nevermind" was too clean, too polished. This was the sound he always wanted to achieve for the most part.
Great album!

I too prefer In Utero to Nevermind but for me my favorite album of theirs is Insecticide. I know its a compilation album of live songs and bsides but for me it has the best collection of songs they have done.

Sliver and Been A Son are awesome bad ass tunes!

Maybe we'll hear Steve Albini's mix of the album on the deluxe edition.
I have a couple of bootlegs from 1993-94 and I think they sound better than the Nevermind gigs. The Rome gig they played is sensational.

Probably some of Kurt's best lyrics ever. What an opener. "Teenage angst has paid off well Now I'm bored and old Self-appointed judges judge More than they have sold."

Mixed feelings about the album itself and this re-issue. They recorded 17 songs I believe and chose 12 for the album and they chose badly. The impossibly droll Moist Vagina should've been on the album as well as Marigold (throw Grohl a bone) and I Hate Myself And Want To Eat More Macaroni Before I Die (a real gut busting, thumping piece of sludge). Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol should've been on there too just as an F you to mainstreamers. I realise that Gallons and I Hate Myself were recorded in Rio prior to the sessions but only by a month so...so..... As for the 2013 mixes I fail to see the point and they didn't seem like any improvement to me. The original Albini mixes of Heart Shaped Box & All Apologies are interesting and I prefer them to the Scott Litt re-mixes that went on the original album. Overall though I'm glad to have the thing available. I took what I liked, stuck it into my Magix program, boosted the mid and high ranges just a touch, added a tiny bit of reverb to open up the sound and make it sound even bigger and the result is tremendous. I own the best sounding copy of the damn album in the world now. I also liked the 5 minute "Jam" of Kurt basically strangling the guitar......the other new thing (the 2 minute forgotten song)is just forgettable barf. Like this whole post! who are you? i only ask because you're fucking awesome... God bless.

Awesome album, I still can't decide which one is their best, Nevermind or this.
Also it's one of the best sound albums I ever heard, the original realease sounds like they are playing live in my room, great production and mixing.

That album was an indication of where Cobain wanted to take their sound imo. Would have loved to have heard what they came up with after In Utero and this.
