I know we've done tons of these. This is not really a thread to do your own alterations, but if you have the perfect version of DOYS, go ahead and post it.
Where would the following tracklisting to DOYS rank in the Oasis catalog?
1. Bag It Up 2. The Turning 3. Waiting for the Rapture 4. The Shock of the Lightning 5. I'm Outta Time 6. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady 7. Falling Down 8. Record Machine (wishing for the proper guitar laden version, but current version will do here) 9. To Be Where There's Life (Guitar version - how it's done live) 10. Boy With the Blues 11. Stop the Clocks
That, quite frankly, is an amazing record. And I have even left off Come On It's Alright (AKA Come On Outside).
Once again they had the songs. Once again they fucked it all up.
IMO, that album would be up there with their 90s material.
Why Oasis? Whyyyyyyyyy?

Change High Horse Lady for Come On Outside and turn off the effects on Liam voice. Perfect.
And I still think that Bag It Up should've been a single. What a fucking great song!
I think that DOYS has a bit of the "SOTSOG syndrome" (wasn't you, NL4E, that used that term in other thread?). They had the songs but the tracklist wasn't right selected.

I would have also like to have seen "I Believe in All" included.

Looking back on it I think the breakup was unavoidable. Noel had been putting off his solo album for years. DOYS proves that Noel needed to go at it alone with inspired songwriting. HFB is his most complete work since 1997.

Stop the Clocks I'm still not sure "Four Letter Word" was around during the DOYS sessions. I can't find any sources stating when it was written. If it was around, big swing and a miss by Mr. Noel Gallagher.

oasis could (and should) release a masterpiece with DOYS.Their mature masterpiece of real music that could end the run of so and so albums and put the critics to bed... Too many wasted tunes , wrong choices, mistakes...really really sad the final product if you compare it with what it could/should be... Even if they had all the time in the world to make things right and they've blown every chance...

I really rate that album as best post Be Here Now, especially the first half of the album is mega. If the formula "all songs written by Noel" was applied on it, it would be 10/10 album. Still fancy the solo on the Turning, the outro...nice flow of the album...but the last songs are just not that good. Like the production of songs as well and artwork.

The album is great as it is. IMO
You could improve every single Oasis album in a similar fashion, doesn't mean they 'fucked' up at all.

That point is very true but it has never been so glaring as it is on Dig Out Your Soul. At this point in their career, they needed to release their best songs moving forward. They were running out of time and this was the swan song.

How Ain't Got Nothin and High Horse ever graced an Oasis album is a joke. I know Liam wasn't very professional not laying down the vocals to a couple of tracks but Noel's stubbornness got in the way of producing a much better record, a proper rocking one as well. I would much prefer Boy With The Blues to finish the album than the droning Soldier On.

That album could have been improved so much by switching some of the tracks with some b-sides from that era, no question. DOYS to a lesser extent, but as i said that applies to every album, even WTSMG and DM. But then that wouldn't be Oasis would it? You'd have all the weaker tracks left as b-sides and Oasis have always had a tradition of great b-sides. Its all part of the Masterplan i'd say, Noel is no fool.

The worst of all Oasis albums by a million miles. There are five absolutely shite songs on it, songs that wouldnt even deserve a rating out of 10. Of the rest of the tracks, there are 2 great tunes and the rest are merely average.

Dig Out Your Soul had no real b-sides with the exception of "Swollen Hand Blues", a track left over from the Don't Believe The Truth sessions. The real crime with Dig Out Your Soul was songs like Record Machine and Stop The Clocks got disregarded and others like Boy With The Blues relegated to "bonus" track status on the deluxe edition of Dig Out Your Soul. Those tracks probably all deserved a better fate with Oasis.

Not saying they would be bad songs... but really don' t see anything what would make them special. Record machine has pretty decent lyrics, but on Noel standards...i don' t know...

Apparently, according to Noel, the proper Record Machine version is an 8 minute, guitar laden epic - similar to Champagne Supernova. Now THAT would be ace. And, according to Noel, there are so many Stop the Clocks recordings - I very much doubt, knowing Noel, that he picked the best one for HFB. Regardless, even the versions of both songs he put on HFB are far superior to the dross of TNOR, AGN, and Soldier On, and would have elevated the second half as more-than-listenable. Their inclusions would have saved the album from being the lost cause that it sadly became.

Number 38 in Spin magazine's "Best Albums Of 2008" list. Number 32 in Q magazine's "Recordings Of 2008" list. Number 22 in NME magazine's "Best Albums Of 2008" list. In 2011 it was voted number 207 in Q magazine's "250 Best Albums Of Q's Lifetime" list featuring albums from 1986 to 2011. And: www.metacritic.com/music/dig-out-your-soul/oasis/critic-reviewsNot bad for a "pony" album. DOYS is actually a decent record, just let down by the last 3-4 songs because of the SOTSOG-Syndrome's tracklisting mistakes.

The only type of person who would think DOYS sucks is someone into Beyonce and "Little James".
