Not sure if this topic has been done before. Sorry if so. I'm kinda new here.
I was thinking about how annoying it gets to say "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds." To me personally, the album title just sounds lazy and bland. It's also insanely long. Anyone else wish Noel had named the album something else? Here's a few names I would have went with.
To Fight Another Day This makes sense in the fact that this lyric comes up in two songs during the album. In "If I Had A Gun," Noel sings:
It can also be seen in the lyrics of "A Simple Game of Genius."
Now consider the meaning of the lyric. Oasis is over and dead (so he thinks). Noel's relationship with his brother Liam is all but ruined (so he thinks). Yet, despite all of the things that are ending, Noel continues to live to fight another day, and is able to pull off yet another stunning album. The message is clear. The whole album seems to revolve around this concept of "to fight another day." What better way for Noel to advertise to Liam and to the world that he's moving forward?
A Simple Game of Genius First of all, I need to get something off of my chest. A Simple Game of Genius should have been one of the highlight tracks of Noel's album. Why it ended up as a bonus track on the deluxe version of the album makes me want to pull my hair out! One of the major reasons why this occurred was likely due to the length of the tune (over 7 minutes!!), but that didn't stop Champagne Supernova did it? Oh well...onto the real reason why I think this could have been a great album title is the meaning. Many Oasis fans look up to Noel as a "godlike genius" (which I personally believe is going WAY too far) and it sure seems like he believes them too. Why not title the album with a perfect the description of the man who created it? After all, a genius like Noel can make the game of songwriting seem oh so simple. That's all songwriting is to Noel, a simple game of genius...and it helps that he happens to be very good at it!
The Death of You and Me
A beautiful way to stick it to Liam. Originally rumored to be the name of Noel's first solo album, the song was one of the singles. While it may sound a gruesome and misleading, it captures the state of the brotherly relationship between Liam and Noel. It's over. Noel commits himself to "running from people who would be the death of you and me" (obviously Liam) and never looks back.

I think I read somewhere that he was thinking of calling it "Somewhere In Between," which I think could've been a great name to call that album

Alone On the Rope (if it had been included on the album) My Whole Life, Running Ease My Troubled Mind The Moment To Find Me Calling Out For Me Noel Gallagher It's A Long Journey
It's hard not to come up with an album title that isn't cheesy, I think Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds was probably the best choice

I was thinking about how annoying it gets to say "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds." How often are u saying it that it gets annoying? I do agree it's a horrible name for a band and an album. I like "a simple game of genius" but might sound pretentious as an album title

I can't believe we're now down to analysing/complaining about band names, will the madness never end?

All of those make me cringe.
He'd have gotten beaten with a justifiable stick by public perception for calling an album A Simple Game of Genius. It's Kanye West Yeezus gear. People would hear the name and scoff before they'd even heard anything off it IMO. Like "we'll see how genius this is."
And frankly The Death of You and Me and Fight Another Day seem really referential towards the Oasis split which is definitely not what the album was about. And is something that I really liked about the album. Calling it something that obviously refers to the split seems like it is begging for headlines and attention to the fact that he had just split with his brother that he fought with. If it had been reflective of it's subject and tone then fair enough...but unnecessary when Noel's whole thing was that he didn't want to make this album all about the split or talk about the split any more than necessary.
Look at BDI. Frankly BDI hardly have room to complain about questions about Noel during their BE promo when they let Liam call one of his tunes "Don't Brother Me." It's impossible to review that album or understand that song and it's topic without acknowledging Liam and Noel's relationship first.
I think the double long name WAS a bit cumbersome. Maybe if he'd kept his own name as the artist and had the album called Noel Gallagher's High Flying Bird's or just High Flying Birds? I think a lot of people struggle to remember or feel foolish calling the act by the longer name. He is Noel Gallagher...and that is what people call him no matter what he puts on his album.
In a later interview he insinuated that he regretted the name thing and might just drop the HFB part next time around.
NGHFB is a good a title as any I suppose though. The important thing to me was that the album was great.

Noel Gallagher - Noel Gallagher or Noel Gallagher - It's Never Too Late to Be Who You Might Have Been (long and corny but somehow still good) Beady Eye should have called their album Face the Crowd, btw

Wasn't it rumoured to have been called "Out of the Darkness" or something before the announcement?

They could have used that picture of him under the box office sign. Would have been a better cover too.

He should have called his solo stuff Noel Gallagher and called his first album High Flying Birds.
All this shite he talked back in 2011 when he insisted he wasn't "in a band" but was doing things solo was ridiculous. He was on stage with the same 4 guys every single gig for the tour. If that isn't a band, nothing is.

What a Life would have been a good album title. Also liked the "never too young" suggestion a few posts ago.

He should have named it: "NG". That's what all the cool kids are doing, like.

the title of the album could be a disaster and i could say the same about the name of NG's solo work. i mean... "noel gallagher's high flying birds". oh well... "noel gallagher's high flying birds"? WTF IS THIS? but at the end of the day the album sold enough and when something like this happens it doesnt matter anything even if its called "noel gallagher's high flying turds". success make things look different if you know what i mean... btw, "Noel Gallagher" could be a good choice but "NG" a better one (credits to NL4E)
