Is Jay Mehler (bass guitarist) a permanent member of beady eye? also what are your opinions on his performance so far in comparison to Jeff Wooten? I think Jay Mehler fits in better with the beady eye look, Jeff always looked a it awkward.

Jay seems very anonymous so far.

He looks like an old bugger so therefore he fits into a band whose members are all over forty. Wooten looked like he was filling in for his dad in a band made up of his dad's mates... Jay's sunglasses seem permanently affixed to his face- he's even more attached to them than Andy or Liam (who are no strangers to the pretentious over wearing of shades). He seems a cool guy though- I very much enjoyed his work with Kasabian. The recent Kasabian Live DVD made no bones that he was second banana to the rest of the band; the director seemed literally to overlook him whilst every other band member had a camera trained on them at all times. You hear Jay's sterling lead work but all you see is Serge playing rhythm. Jay was just out of frame on the wide shot of Beady Eye's Absolute Radio gig too- the guy will get an inferiority complex!

I like Jay, he doesn't try to hog the limelight. I hope he's permanent, from the few performances they've done I'd say he's a pretty good bassist too and like others have said he fits the Beady Eye 'look' as it were.

I'd guess he is just a hired gun for now. Jay has always been a floating touring/session player. His most famous stay being with Kasabian. I think Bead Eye will always have a Spinal Tap syndrome with their bass player. Similar to Oasis' drummers from 1995 to 2009.

Jeff Wooten played a blinder on the album imo. Jay however still needs to proove himself for me. Although he does have the right "look" for Beady Eye.

I've seen Jay with Kasabian 8 times and met him a couple of times. He's a really friendly guy and he's a good guitar player.
