Is it a play on the pronunciation of 'our'? I thought it was a thing where in Manchester, 'our' is pronounced 'are', and Noel just did it for a laugh; maybe he'd had a conversation with someone where that pronunciation caused confusion so he put it in a song?
I think this ties in with the song, which is about their local scene - bleak Manchester (presumably the office is the dole office), going to the football, supporting your team, etc. And the reference to 'birds' means women - I think it's just a real English, Manchester thing, like a private joke.
Note Liam on the 'There & Then' concert saying "No, it's 'Round ARE Way'"
Any idea what 'bangs the sound' means ('Ernie bangs the sound and the day begins')? Is that a stupid question?
I love this song and its title. Makes me think of the Morning Glory heyday.......

yeah it's Manchester dialiect. They often pronounce the ARE. Don't most places pronounce it 'are'? I do. I thought it was a nod to Slade myself.

Does anyone have the Q magazine 10th anniversary special issue? IN the list of the top 50 songs, the reviewer of Round Are Way makes reference to "girls cracking on to the local hero" but those lyrics are not in the song. I've never understood what the hell he was referring to.

Yeah, is a nod to Slade and the way they would phoentically spell the titles of their songs: Cum On Feel The Noize, etc.
