Very sad to post that the legendary venue Maxwell's in Hoboken, New Jersey is closing at the end of July. pitchfork.com/news/51004-hoboken-venue-maxwells-closing/They had some iconic bands roll through at one point or another. - New Order (their first gig) - Bruce Springsteen (Glory Days video) - The Replacements - Buzzcocks - Sonic Youth - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Soundgarden - Smashing Pumpkins - Nirvana (Photos of this gig are in Bleach liner notes) - Talking Heads - R.E.M. - Oasis - Arcade Fire - The Strokes - Peter Bjorn and John - Band of Horses - Neutral Milk Hotel - The National - Yo La Tengo - Meat PuppetsTo name but a very few of great band who graced the stage. I personally caught many many shows there (Meat Puppets twice, Black Lips twice, British Sea Power twice, Moby and Val Emmich). This venue WILL BE MISSED. Such a sad state of affairs to see legendary venues and record shops die out.

Classic venues like this seem to be closing at such a rate. Will historic venues become a thing of the past?

BSP back in 2011 by chance? I was there as well. Rumors are its not gone for good and will be reopening near the Exchange Place PATH stop in Jersey City. Maxwells was a nice venue, I liked that it was within walking distance from me for a while, but if being totally honest, it was a bit of a hole and the sound sucked sometimes. Saw a lot of good gigs tho and it was the easiest place Ive been to get close to the musicians before and after the show/have a beer/chat etc.
