I was studying Shakespeare's 18 th sonnet today in class and an interesting subject came up. In the last quatrain of the sonnet the speaker mentions that the person will have eternal life, which as we know is not possible, but in the last two lines the speaker says this.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee
Which pretty much says that as long as people live and read this sonnet then you will always be know. And then we talked about how someone can gain immortality, and it's only through fame and art. This then rattled something in my mind.
When Oasis was first starting out all they were trying to do was get out of Manchester and make a name for them selfs and leave an impression on the world. So I thought that maybe Live Forever wasn't just and song about living forever with someone, maybe it's about the band, in particular Noel, trying to become so famous that he will thous become immortal. And I would say that Live Forever perpetuated there career so much that it may in fact have done just that.
Now I know this contradicts everything that Noel said about the album about how there's nothing deep in it and how it's just about drugs, drinking, and shagging, but just tell me what you think.

Actually, I always thought that was what "Live Forever" was sort of about — doing big, great things and "living forever" through them. A lot of Noel's early lyrics had a similar theme, with the idea of wanting to escape the mundane life. That's what "Rock n' Roll Star," "C&A," and a bunch of others seem to be about.

I could be wrong but didn't Noel claim that he wrote Live Forever before he joined the band?
Noel has said that it's about two old friends who laugh at jokes and stories that other people don't understand but it almost has to have been written with more than a single solitary meaning.

I completely agree. It's not just about romance and all that... It's about arrogance. Saying "here we are- OASIS- Noel and Liam- and tonight we are Rock 'n Roll Stars and we ARE going to Live Forever. The music we make today is going to live on forever." Fucking brilliant!

eh, the album was about more than that. The entire spirit of youth, etc. They were also trying to make it big.
Live Forever meant that. It had to.

yeah of course Noel wrote live4ever and it meant different things i.e. 'we'll see things they'll never see.." - like an inside joke b/t you and your m8s.. blah blah.. and threw it to some words that rhymed..
but i agree it goes beyond just an album and a bunch of songs.. I was not in england back in 94 etc.. but I read much about Oasis - it was the band everyone was waiting for... and what it meant to poeple in England and all.. England was "in the toilet" and kids were waiting for an identity etc..
let's see, where am I going with this ? yeah, Truly Britpop is musical history...A REVITALIZATION if you will.. ROCKNROLL mister ! I mean it'll be in history books and all... they talk about it already in music history classes from what I read..
oasis made their mark..
their music is timeless... I'll put it on in 20 years and it will still sound great !
heard wonderwall tonite on DC 101 and it hit me like "fcuk this is right up there with a beatles tune !"
cheers posh !

I think he will live forever through his songs but I don't think it was intentional like you said. He said himself he wasn't looking for something like that and it was all just stuff to play when they were performing at the Boardwalk.
