I reckon Andy is a better guitar player than both of them.

Gem is a better guitarist on the technical side, he dose quite a few solos when they play live and he flows. In my opinon both Allan and Zak are superb. Allan has more of a groove and his drumming is really tight which is awsome because to me it's the classic Oasis sound. But Zac is just pure rock and roll! Diden't think it was that great when the album first came out but then I saw them live in june and Zac is a machine!!! Both are amasing drummers imho.

imo=in my opinion Liam>Noel (just by a bit but, listen to the first three albums, LAMB, GP, SCYHO) Gem>Noel>Bonehead Andy is just a top musician Cant compare Zak and Alan, Zak is better live but Alan I think has a better technique overall. Tony was just so poor...

I don't know much about drumming but when you listen to Alan's drumming he's very keane on the fills and drumline/military style drummer boy stuff. I think why Noel is on about Zak is because he's very creative and contributes to the band...while Alan just showed up and did his thing. I think comparing Zak and Alan's musicianship is almost like apples and oranges but I'd say I prefer having Zak in the band...at the least for the morale-building he brings...

Liam is definitely better than Noel. Would Liam be in the band if Noel could sing just as well as him?

no question liam is the better singer. Not that noel is bad, he has a great voice and it has gotten better over the years....however its liam's voice and noel's tunes that create the classic oasis sound...

It's funny how in the original line up, none of them were that good technically.
Noel was average at guitar at best. However, he knew how to write songs, and Liam sounded fucking great.
I think now Noel is the better singer. Liam's shit now.
Gem and Andy haven't really added much as far as guitar goes to the band. I liked it before when bonehead did the rhythem. Loud and he loved his barre chords. And of course, Noel did the lead. Gem and Andy are slightly better than Noel. If they are really that much better, I'd love to hear it.

Singing - Liam for the rockers, Noel for the ballads. They have completely different voices, and they lend themselves to different songs. Noels voice gets lost in the wall of sound of songs like Morning Glory or Cigarettes and Alcohol, whereas Liam can't sing the beautiful melodies of the ballads like Don't Look Back in Anger. Together, they make a great team.
Guitar - Gem and Noel perform very closely, and it works very well. Technically, they're both miles ahead of Bonehead, but if you listen to the Bonehead-era live shows, there's not a lot lacking. He did the job he needed to do just fine. That said, Gem is technically better than Noel, but Noel's the reason the band is as big as it is, and deserves credit for this.
Bass - No contest. Andy adds another element to the bottom end of the Oasis sound that Guigsy never could. Plus, he writes songs.
Drums - Alan and Zak are both excellent drummers. Very distinct. It's very easy to hear the difference in their drumming. Alan was a straight up drummer - nothing overly fancy, but the beat was always right there. Zak has a more beat-the-crap-out-of-the-drums sound. You can tell he's smashing the things with everything he's got. I think he also bangs on the snare more than Alan did. Tony... Well... Tony couldn't keep time.

Andy was 15 years of his life a guitarist. His first instrument is guitar. He started playing bass, after he joined Oasis. I don't know if Guigsy can play guitar as well, but he was... well Guigsy. Gem is better than Noel and Bonehead both. Everybody in the band is playing guitar (except Liam who is rudimentary guitarist) . Noel said that he, Gem and Andy played bass and the threesome played guitar as well on some songs. So, I think they should be judged who is best guitarist in the band, because bass is significantly easier to play than guitar. I think that Gem and Andy are far better than Noel. However, I'm quite surprised that we don't see nothing of Mike Rowe on DBtT. He is "semi-official" recording keyboardist for Oasis till Morning Glory. He was on tHC as well, too. Darlington is touring with Oasis, but Mike is featured on albums. So, I was quite surprised he didn't work on the album. Probably the band wanted to work themselves as Andy and Gem to work on keyboard as they are multi-instrumentalists. Alan is "beat-the-crap-out -of-Zak" drummer.

i dont know about you guys but just cause your a good guitarist doent make you a good band member, not saying that gem and andy are not goof band members but for me the oasis line up i love will always be liam, noel, bonehead, guigsy and al four mancunians and an east ender that played fucking good music. To many people seem to focus on musicianship rather than a band
nothing against gem or andy but if iwas in a band and me mates left fuck this is goin nowheres anyways i think some of you may no what im sayin it ruins the vibe of the band
fuckin i only prey to god that some day we will be blessed by allan whites drummin i cant stand the way zac has changed the fuckin way things a played

I would like to see Bonehead play some of their solos just to see if he's any good. I can't really judge him from seeing him play barre chords all the time.

Zak just can't play. Poor boy. He is just isn't for that band. Should play his fucking drumming back in the Who. Even I can play his shitless drumming. "Turn Up the Sun" is very easy and rudimentary song and from the same point of view "Lyla" is hilarious with the 4/4-th bang-bang again and again.
