I have to admit I don't really get all the sudden slagging off against Liam's voice and Beady Eye's lyrics. I get the feeling some people were not Oasis fans before Beady Eye because there are a lot of critics being thrown around that are suprising/inacurate. Now before someone says "Yer just a fanboy bla bla bla" I will start by saying I'm not a fan of DGSS. I've been into Oasis since the beginning and absolutely love Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. But to me, on DGSS, there are no in "between songs". I either love some song (not many) or skip them altogether. That being said, concerning Liam's voice: why is everyone surprised at his ability to sing? He's always been awesome on record. His problem has always been live. But listen to SOTSOG, HC, DBTT, DOYS and DGSS, he sounds great. So I'm not surprised at his voice on the songs we heard from BE as of yet. If the quality is the same live then I'll be surprised (and happy). The lyrics now. Liam has never claimed to be the best lyricist in the world. He's always bragging about it taking him "10 minutes to write and that was that and if yer not into this then fuck off...". Liam's lyrics were never complex and his songs were never really elaborated. Even the lyrics to Born on a Different Clound are great but a lot of them are copied off other people or John Lennon songs/book (Living on borrowed time, classless clever and free, etc). But listen to Songbird, Better Man, Little James, I'm Outta Time, Ain't Got Nothin', etc. Nothing complex there. He is and always has been about "the tunes". Gem and Andy were never the best songwriters in Oasis either. They had their moments but I never expect THAT much from them either. I believe Noel knew that as well given the number of songs from them on Oasis records. Noel has always been the "poet" for a lack of a better word. So given that Oasis are now two different entities, one has to listen to both from two different perspectives. My two cents... for what it's worth any way.

To be fair to write a song with complex meaningful lyrics is quite a task that's why good songwriters are so valued (Noel Gallagher, John Lennon, Michael Jackson etc) as for Liam's voice I think the new albums songs so far are better tailored for a live performance because there's no really high notes for Liam to get to. Remember Noel also used john Lennon's imagine for DLBIA and so do a lot of singers (its a use of inspiration)

Oh I'm not saying Noel was 100% original and Liam isn't. There are a lot of Noel's songs to prove that (Cigarette's & Alcohol/T-Rex for example). But from interviews it's clear that Noel's always put more time in crafting his songs (when he wasn't also writing "tunes"). But Liam was never a songwriter. Even he said it. He's all about the songs. And I'm not saying that in a bad way either. To me, it's like Beady Eye write songs as a performance "support" if you will. To sing and play, you need songs.
Of course, being a songwriter myself, I know writing is a task that can be hard espacially if you're trying to not sound like any one else (which is impossible I think... unless you're Thom Yorke or some weird space-jazz experimental band).
I guess where I'm going with this is that I expect Beady Eye's songs to be simple and more "tunes-y" and Noel's to be more crafted with the occasional simple non-sense lyrics song (like Dream On).
When I bought DGSS I knew there were a lot of songs I didn't like. BE seems better as of yet but we'll see. But I'm not surprised in the lyrics nor Liam's voice.
