Flick of the Finger is just as relevant as SBOTA as people's first exposure anyway

Single is usually is not the best song, but it's usually a strong song and it's rare that it's one of the bottom half of songs on an album. Usually a single is in top half of the album in terms of quality. It would be great if FOTF and SBOTA were bottom half songs on the album. That would actually be amazing and we'd be in for a special album. Whereas if they're in the top half then the quality of the album can go either way. And I agree with jaq515. Tv/radio still have a very big influence what almost anyone listens to.

They'd been away for a year and came back with a new single for a new album. So it's a comeback, no? No. A comeback in music is usually when an artists releases a shite album previously which causes the loss of fans, exposure and admiration, and then returns to the music scene with something of good quality. Or a comeback is when a band splits and then many years later rejoins and releases a new album. A year and a half isn't much of a break in the music world.

Surely the best 'comeback' ever. They've never been cooler. This is probably the BEST song off Be Here Now. Totally Oasis. Totally full of attitude. I loved it in 1997 and I love it in 2013. Fuck yeah! I am 100% with these guys. That song blows me away every single time.

It's an alright song, something new which I'm pleased about.
The album will have better songs though, relax.

The first single usually isn't the best song, but its usually a belter and a tune to which you can stand arm in arm with your best mates at sold out arenas and sing all the words and totally get lost in the moment.
Good luck doing that with SBOTA.

And it is likely that most of us on these boards were there in 97.

If you're going to judge Bring the Light as the first "single" from DGSS, then you have to also consider Flick of the Finger the first "single" from BE, and it's better than several of the previous lead "singles".

Roll with it had no business being the first official single of Morning Glory. Love the track but so many b sides from the album or other songs ON the album could have taken it's place.

In fact Tom, I think every other Gallagher related lead single so far has done the job pretty well, hence my post. I can't tell if they were "designed" to do that though, you'll have to ask whoever wrote them.

but... Some might say was the first single from Morning Glory They didn't have the album when they released SMS, so it was kinda like an in-between-album single that they also put on the album. It wasn't realeased to promote the album. That's why some people regard RWI as the lead single off Morning Glory.

Judging by the track-by-track review from a few days ago, SBOTA could possibly be the most cheerful song on the record with other songs mostly rather restrained. Maybe that's why they chose it as the first single...? Just taking a guess.
