Just wondering if anybody on these forums has seen the academy award winning documentary Searching For Sugar ManFor those of you who haven't- I highly recommend it- it is a surprisingly light and un-pretentious movie, which I find to be a rare thing. I won't share to much as not to ruin the story for all of you, but I tell you- even if you are not normally fond of documentaries- you should at least give it a shot. However- I am sure that some have you have seen the movie (or surely will after my post he-he, and to you I ask- What did you think of Rodriguez's music? I, for one, enjoyed it immensely. The song's are very Dylan circa Highway 61, meaning great thought provoking lyrics set to music as simple as it is amazing and catchy. He also possesses a great voice- humble and resonant, simultaneously full of both disdain and compassion. To me, Rodriguez sounds not only like a long-lost overlooked musical link between the sixties and the seventies, but like a great musical idol, up there with the best of them. Seriously- I have known of his music only for 3-4 weeks, and I already feel like He has been a favorite of mine for my whole life. Rodriguez's two albums are called Cold Fact and Coming From Reality and all his songs are available on youtube. Give 'em a go- i'd love to know what you think!

I have. I saw it in theaters without much expectation (just heard it could be nominated for the Oscars). But I was happily surprised. It's a very moving documentary with great music, but I pretty good artist. I personally think he compares more to Donovan than Bob Dylan, but I do love songs like Sugarman, I Wonder, and Slip Away I'd recommend it too.

Hmm... for some reason I didn't think of Donovan when listening to him. Maybe it's because i'm not familiar with a lot of Donovan songs. The movie only includes about half his songs, there are quite a few other good ones. I'm very fond of Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour, for example. BTW Ross you should definitely watch the movie when you have some time, I think you'll really enjoy it.
