Good for Theo. Always loved him when he was in Boston. A prodigy and now best baseball executive of all time?

Love sport when it has stories like this. A bit similar to when the Boston Red Sox ended their curse in 2004 no?
To my shame, I don't yet understand the rules to baseball but the history and allure of it fascinates me.

Good for Theo. Always loved him when he was in Boston. A prodigy and now best baseball executive of all time? I still think Branch Rickey did far more for the game then Theo could ever possibly do. Theo has been great, but not transformative really. Branch Rickey is definitely tops. He signed Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente. He built the gas house gang Cardinals, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the We Are Family Pirates. He built three world series contenders, broke the color barrier, and began the barrage of Latin American players. Lastly, he is the father of the modern farm system. He built the modern game. Hard to top. But Theo is definitely one of the best, considering the level of difficulty. No team builder, save for Branch Rickey signing Jackie Robinson, has felt as much pressure as Theo with two different franchises. His manipulation of the international player system, his adept drafting, and his formula of burn down/rebuild is a system that is being copied by several franchises right now. He is a master manipulator of every weakness in the baseball system. To win a world series with the Cubs and two with the Red Sox is staggering. Last night was incredibly AMAZING. I've worked at Wrigley field for two years now, and to be out there for this incredible run and to see these players everyday, I was just incredibly happy for them too. I remember seeing Schwarber rehab throughout the season. Every day he worked to get back to the World Series, in the sun, in the rain, on a few feet of grass when the field was being resodded. To see so many of these guys who are incredibly charitable and fantastic people. And then for my personal fandom, to think of my dad who only came up a year short. I cried several times last night.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Theo is a rock star in today's current baseball climate. He's probably the most famous GM/Execuitve in all sports right now. Plus he's like an extra member of Pearl Jam.

I'm not into baseball really but if I was, I'd have followed the Cubs. My mate loves em and stayed up almost all night to watch Game 7, he was over the moon.
The scenes at Wrigley looked amazing.

Congrats... Bagwell, Raines, & Ivan on your being voted in to the Hall of Fame.

Looks like a good friend is going to make me go to NY in July. I guess I'd better start saving. This means I need to go two years in a row.

The Hall has become a joke. You can't let some PED accused guys in like Bagwell, Pudge and Piazza but keep out Bonds and Clemens. None of them failed any tests. Shit, it wasn't even eligible when they played! I've always been anti-PED guy but since you let so in, might as well let the best hitter and pitcher of my generation in. It's only fair. Plus MLB and HOF counts their stats and accomplishments. Might as well let them in too. Only makes sense.
I also find it ironic that on the year Bud Selig gets in, he will have to share the stage with two PED who successfully beat the system and got into the HOF. Baggy and Pudge.

The PED era happened... trying to ignore it thru HOF voting is simply stupid. The fact that "old school" guys can't see how the use of PED's saved the game they love is mind-boggling. Baseball was headed for the toilet post-1994 because of the strike, then two known roiders made the game worth watching again in 1998. The ensuing 6-8 years combined to save baseabll as we know it. If anything, the HOF should create a special wing dedicated to this era and champion the successes of it. Bonds and Clemens will get in... most likely on their last shot in year 10 on the ballot. Bagwell was a legit 5 tool player... no amount of PED's was going to change that. Pudge on the other hand couldn't hit the ball past the pitcher without the aid of a bottle. Personally, I think all this is stupid. Celebrate the game and quit trying to post-legislate its morality. #freeRose #freeShoelessJoe

No doubt in my mind he did it. Classic body change and he trained with Ken Camminiti. Never Rose. Never Joe. Both took the money and broke known rules of the game. Rose constantly lied about and still does. He's never getting in.

If two of the greatest players in history are barred from the HOF then is it really a HOF at all? You could argue that them being barred is making them both more famous (infamous) oddly enough. The whole thing makes very little sense especially when juxtaposed with the various TERRIBLE human beings that are in the HOF. Before 1993 Bagwell already had mulitple All-Star caliber seasons. Maybe he chose to use, doesn't change much really... but that's on baseball (especially the worm Selig) for doing NOTHING until forced by the government. He still never failed a test just like Clemens and Bonds.

That is always bad for a sport because it involves integrity and making people think games are on the level. Bagwell did roids. You said he didn't. He was never an all star prior to taking the juice. He was never a 5 tool player coming up in the Sox system. His body changed tremendously over night and stayed that way until testing began. If he's in, then it's stupid for HOF to keep Bonds or Clemens out. Let them all in then. It's only fair. The stats are still the stats.
