Great player Deserved 100 percent. As did Seaver. Yeah, I dunno what those three people were thinking. The only possible explanation I can think of is that they knew he'd be elected, and needed a spot on the ballot for someone else. If not, they have lost credibility with me definitely. Also glad to see it looks like Jeff Bagwell will eventually get in. He deserves it, being one of the best first basemen since WW2...

Dick young hated Seaver Why he didn't get 100 percent Who ever did not vote for Griffey ?? Should be banned. Certain players are locks. Steve Carlton. Look at his record. He once won 27 games when his team I believe only won 54. he won over 350 games Yet certain voters left him off there balott Why the hall is a joke.

Now that a long rumored steroids guy is in (Mike Piazza) it's time for baseball to let Bonds and Clemens in. Two dominating MLB figures of all time. I've always been anti steroids but you can't vote for one and leave the other two out. None of them failed any tests and are currently in good standing with Major League Baseball. I see staunch anti Bonds/Clemens writers all voted for them this year.....Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman. They know that because Piazza was getting in that now opens the floodgates. Barry and the Rocket will get their day eventually.

I'm mostly pumped for the love shown to both Bagwell and Raines. It's ridiculous that such great players have to sit and wait. Maybe it will make it that much more sweet when they get in.

Jeff Kent isn't by far and away the best hitting 2nd baseman of all time though. Go take a look at Rogers Hornsby's numbers. Kent's debate is the classic "peak value" vs. "career value" argument. For example, Chase Utley has more career WAR than Kent while playing 700 less games to this point. Over a nine year span (97 - 05) Kent averaged 4.7 WAR a season (42 total), which ends up being 75% of his total career WAR in what amounts to 56% of his career. If Jeff Kent gets in the HOF at some point I'm fine with it, but comparing him to Piazza is really not fair. While I'll conceit that overall their numbers are pretty comparable. A catcher who hits like Piazza NEVER happens. Piazza is a top five all time catcher, arguably top 3, while Kent might struggle to make the top 10 all time at 2B. Kent vs. Piazza Comparison Here >

Actually via advanced metrics and by observations of both opposing and his managers, he wasn't that bad. In some areas, he was actually pretty above average. Sure, he was terrible at throwing out baserunners, but that's only one facet of catching. I think he definitely deserved to be in.

Kent was an excellent hitter and a dicey fielder at 2B. He is a potential Hall of Famer because of that famous bat, both in the regular season and postseason. Even won a NL MVP in 1999. Good stuff. Hard to leave a guy out of the Hall with these CAREER numbers at 2B, .290 AVG, .356 OBP, .500 SLG and .855 OPS. Tremendous numbers.

Tremendous numbers. my point is not to decimate what piazza did at the plate, but just to name someone else at another position with comparable numbers, who is not yet in the hall. i'm just saying that at some point you have to draw the line, or else eventually you are going to let everyone in. sure roger was a PED user, but look at the numbers early on in his career. and the cy youngs. as much as i don't like him and don't want him in, you need to take a look at the natural ability there. he was great even without the PED's. piazza? i'm not sure. and sure he was never a proven PED user, but you certainly need to take a look at it though.

Pretty stellar stuff. Also belted 5 homers in a series against your beloved Yankees in 1995. Another #Whiff for you Kalas. Easy to pitch around? He's a career .284 hitter with 630 HR, 1836 RBI, 1662 runs scored, .370 OBP, .538 SLG, .907 OPS. He was fucking amazing in all situations.

It's a shame the Mariners didn't have pitching depth, or he would have been in the post-season much more often. Those teams were stacked with Hall of Fame talent. Griffey, Martinez, Tino Martinez, A-Rod, Randy Johnson, Buhner. I wouldn't really want to pitch around him at the time. Also saw him hit a Grand Slam against Joel Zumaya to put his team up late against the Tigers in 05. Was pretty much the only solid hit the Reds had the entire day.

how can you not vote griffey in ffs? one of the greatest natural-born baseball talents of all-time. his numbers would be even more stellar if it hadn't been for the injuries in the later part of his career.
