What do people on here think about Biffy Clyro? Do people put them in the same miserable box as Snow Patrol or are there some fascination..? I personally am a bit of a fan of the band, saw these Scots a month ago and they were proper on fire, one of my top 3 live gigs of all time. Simon Neill has eventually developed to be a pretty good live singer as well. They won of course Best British band at the NME in February (ironically), and Opposites has been well received. Black Chandelier is a mega tune. Personally not too impressed with their earlier work, apart from Only Revolutions released in 2007 I think.
Any thoughts?

I really like Biffy Clyro, have all of their albums I think the early stuff is as good as the mellower new stuff. Great band.

Love them .Ive seen them about 12 ish times and what a way to close Reading. So of course I'm going to say I prefer older stuff it did take a few listens to really get in to it but joy discovery invention and with aplomb are classics are of course 27,57.Some off opposites is ok such as sounds like balloons ,MMF,little hospitals .Biblical ,black chandelier are just annoying now.But listen to the b sides of opposites such as milky and the rain.I could just go on and on,but maybe listen to the older stuff again and start with puzzle and leave Vertigo of bliss last.

Just previewed some of their songs on their latest album. Like what I've heard. Black Chandelier sounds like a tune and a half.
Nice to see the Oasis community liking them - it's kind of a stamp of approval.
Will download Opposites today.

Not sure if I've mentioned this already (#sarcasm), but Only Revolutions is so fucking good.
Going to listen to Puzzle for the first time in a couple mins (once I'm done with Revolutions of the 6th time).
Need to give Opposites more time, as I always skipped around.
However, it's going to take something special from Puzzle and Opposites to topple Only Revolutions, such is my love for their 2009 effort.

Just listened to Puzzle for the first time.
Ppretty much what I expected - the ideas here were taken and improved on to make the perfect follow up in Only Revolutions. On Puzzle, the sound is much rougher, not as polished or produced than Revolutions (which is a shame, I wish the sound was more crisp). But the album is laden with catchy and big choruses (which were also improved upon in Revolutions) and several uses of an orchestra, making it a very good atmospheric record.
I wish I listened to this one before Only Revolutions, because Only Revolutions is indeed superior, but the quality of Puzzle isn't too far off which surprised me, actually - I know the basic history of the band, and have read their first 3 albums were poor (only liked by the band's initial hardcore fans), which I'm not inclined to listen to, at least not right now.
Notable Moments (With Red Being the Best Tracks)
Living is a Problem opens the album fantastically, grabbing the listening in from the start, and pulling him in even more. It's a little too generic at times though, but it's strength is that there's a lot going on underneath the surface.
I love the obvious, and probably intended, Bloc Party riff of A Whole Child Ago. Good album track, but wanted more. It's found wanting/lacking at times, especially by Biffy's standards.
I'm currently feeling mixed with Get Fucked Stud, which has something that makes me like it. Maybe it's the melody or the instrumentation involved.
Now I'm Everyone is mixed for me. Vocally and lyrically it's irritating, but the jam section beginning at 1.50 with the jangled guitar riffs, leading into the instrumental outro saves the track.
The Conversation Is, is by far the best song on the album. It would nestle quite nicely in Only Revolutions, and would even be a standout on that album. The song just soars.
Folding Stars - Was looking forward to this one, based on the album reviews mentioning it. I was initially slightly disappointed on the first listen but immediately re-played it. That second listen quickly made me re-evaluated the track, I actually really like it now. The strong melody in the verses, in tandem with the incredibly catchy bridge, culminating in the constant build ups are not only the best part of the song, but those elements also propel the track into a sing-songy chorus. Well crafted and joint favorite with The Conversation Is.
Love Has A Diameter - I liked what I was hearing when I started it, but found myself thinking it was a bit repetitive, and going nowhere. But as the song continued, my opinion changed. Like most of their tracks, it's layered nicely. Whoaoaoa.
I'm going to have this album on repeat for a few days. I expect to like it even more with constant plays. The quality is there, just needs more plays to be fully appreciated.

In my opinion Puzzle is their worst album...it is good for me but far away from others!!
My rank is:
1.Only Revolutions (full of commercial hits in my opinion, really catchy tunes...thanks to Only Revoltions I know them) 2.Opposites (I was listening to this album on repeat everyday last winter, simply amazing) 3.The Vertigo of Bliss (I can keep listening to "All The Way Down" for ages) 4.Blackened Sky ( A bit dark, but is a really good debut album, Justboy, 57 and Christopher's River my favourites.) 5.Infinity Land (Simply this is Biffy...weird lyrics weird riffs) 6.Puzzle( I am not saying is a bad album, but i find it less interesting than the rest)
You should see them live...one of the best rock bands I've ever seen live! They play every note and sing every single lyric as if it is the end of the world! Great band!

But I'm not expecting fireworks. We'll see. However, I've just downloaded their Revolutions: Live at Wembley DVD (2010). Will watch it soon, but I'm now making my way through a complete listen of Opposites. I'm loving this band more and more with every passing day.

You're right, seagoras Opposites is far superior to Puzzle, but Puzzle still has it's moments. If you look at the Puzzle-Only Revolutions-Opposites as a trilogy, as most music critics do, it makes sense. Each builds right off the other one. You can't have one without the album before it. I don't know why I avoided Opposites for so long. Actually, I do know - I played just the couple first singles, and while good, they didn't impress me - other than Biblical, which is, erm, biblical. But as I listened to Only Revolutions, and then Puzzle, it became ever apparent that this band, with it's bombastic sound, is much more than a singles band. Almost every track is brilliant, especially on Only Revolutions and Opposites. I know Opposites got good reviews, but nothing exceptional. Critics be damned. It's very good, and pushes Only Revolutions (although it probably feels like it truly rivals Revolutions simply due to the increased number of tracks to be immersed with). Other than the singles, there are more than several highlights all over this album (and I actually prefer all of the follow to most of the singles they chose, bar Biblical: Joke's On Us, The Fog, The Thaw Stingin' Belle, Pocket, Woo Woo Picture A Knife Fight. Fuck, that's almost the entire album! One bombastic sound with a mega huge chorus after another, Actually both Stingin' Belle and Pocket should really have been singles. In fact, there's something going on in just about every track. The only skippable track for me is Trumpet or Trap. Every other track provides a reason to listen. The verses of A Girl and His Cat are fucking irritating, too. I'm so very tempted to say that this album is better than Revolutions. But I won't go there. Not yet. It is more immediate, commercial, and accessible though. Doesn't matter, cos now two fantastic albums to listen to. P.S. Lennon2217, I still love Los Campesinos, always will, but Biffy Clyro is the first band that has truly blown me away since LC.

Glad to hear that...they impressed me so much some years ago and now i'm truly amazed by everything they do...seen them in Madrid last december and believe me that was totally nuts...many of the songs they played were from Opposites and every single person on that venue (more than 2,000) went totally crazy on choruses and riffs...specially in Biblical and Sounds Like Balloons...great acceptance of the new songs in so little time!! About the Live at Wembley concert it has a really nice production...and practically the entire Only Revolutions performed in it...I recommend to have a look to the deluxe edition that lasts 20 minutes more...so you can watch also Justboy, 27, Know Your Quarry etc Last summer they headlined Reading Festival their biggest gig yet...more than 70,000 people attended. I uploaded the full gig to Youtube. It is not a full HD upload but it is the best you can find. I don't know how many times I've watched that gig, but I still have goosebumps. Here's the Reading concert: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXjXWA21NOT9uF1h4NaUr8Pl0ZI53E8hWHope it helps to make you a huge fan of them!

Is it just me who hears a few sprinkles of riffs in the style of Stone Rose.
Note example starting at 1.22-1.23 with a few more that follow before the chorus.
Sure, it's only a one second each, but sounds like the Stone Roses to me. Am I alone here?
Fantastic song. Pop-fucking-tastic, this is.

Yeah the effect and lick is similar to the Roses, but please... don't compare Biffy Clyro to the Roses. The Roses are in a completely different league in terms of quality and creativity. pretty meh/dry/cliche for me. I'm with you all the way on Japandroids, and Los campesinos are way better as well:)

I'm not a hardened Biffy fan as I don't think they have sold out but I have to disagree that OR is the best album.I got into them through OR and too couldn't get enough of it but when you see them live your oppinion changes.I Listened to people saying the first 3 albums were the best ,I gave IL a go it was ok ,than BS again ok with Joy discovery being one of my top 3 favourite songs and left VOB til last .It took me a good 8-10 plays to really appreciate them and then I didn't really bother with OR again and even now out of the 7 albums yes there's a B side Lonely Revolutions I don't really listen to OR much now .But don't bother listening to LR until you have fallen for the first 3. Pocket is the only one I skip on Opposites as I find it way too poppie with Little hospitals ,MMF and The Thaw possibly my top 3 . One song that I must see live is With Aplomb off VOB but I haven't a clue when they last played it .Even Hope for an Angel get played now and again and that was considered a rarity. So least I've heard that a couple of times now. Also listen to The Rain it's a b side off the Opposites album. Later this year hopefully they are releasing Similarities which the B sides to Opposites,so least that something to look forward to as I very much doubt that I will be seeing the band this year as I can't do IOW or TITP ?but hoping for a nice couple of warm ups fingers crossed.
