I agree completely. For me, not every band has to act or have the persona of the Gallagher brothers. I love everything Coldplay has done, even Mylo Xyloto. For me they're one of the best bands around. Even if you don't like them as people or don't see them as "cool", you can't deny they've written some of the greatest songs of recent time (Politik, Clocks, The Scientist, Sparks, Don't Panic, etc.) Add In My Place in with that list, brilliant tune. Yes I forgot about that song! All of the songs from the A Rush of Blood to the Head era are absolutely fantastic, definitely my favorite album from them!

'Violet Hill' was pretty good too. Violet Hill was great. I'm not a big fan of Coldplay but they made a few very good songs... Again, proof that Coldplay can be aggressive. For comeback singles it was a great return. One niggle with Coldplay from X&Y was that the songs were good, but not on a par with A Rush of Blood to the Head, and they were also a bit too long - they suffered from the Be Here Now syndrome on that album I think. The return of Violet Hill was just over 3 minutes long, and in your face, less sentimental and more dark than previous Coldplay singles. A brilliant tune - I always remember it being released around the same time as Shock of the Lightning, a couple of months apart, and since only recently becoming a massive Oasis fan then, I expected the new Oasis single to blow Coldplay out of the water. It didn't - Violet Hill absolutely trashed Shock of the Lightning in my opinion. Shock of the Lightning is very good, but it's nothing we haven't heard before but with Coldplay I thought, 'yeah I'm very pleasantly surprised'.

Come On Outside is fucking great song. Great riff, good lyrics, great vibe. A real stadium-sing-along tune. I wonder how Noel does that every now and then..
