My dad loves Springsteen, but I've never given either a proper listen. Just a few casual listens that's all. But this thread has inspired me to dig through that CD collection and get out some albums of these two. honestly? start with youtube. for bruce, it's all about the live performances. here are some INCREDIBLE places to start.

You know the funny thing is I've seen quite a few Springsteen concerts(on dvd) but I never got round to listening to the albums properly. Born To Run and Wrecking Ball also I've heard a few times.

Well, I've just come back from Glasgow in Hampden Park and it is genuinely the best spectacle I've ever seen. He took so many requests from the crowd, his voice was brilliant, the E Street Band were brilliant, he danced with the crowd, he performed every song as if it was the last song he would ever play in his entire life!!! Finally, he sent the whole E Street Band off the stage and it was just him and an acoustic guitar playing an incredibly emotional version of Thunder Road. In the whole stadium, you could hear a pin drop after the 3 and a half hour ecstacy journey for the whole song. It was also the second anniversary of Clarence Clemons death and there was a very moving tribute to him.
After seeing that performance, in my mind, he doesn't just put Bob Dylan to shame, he puts every single live act at the moment to shame. Incredible, what a legend!

All good points but remember, Bob isn't a showmen. He's a songwriter. Bruce is both. Dylan never reached for that. He inspires by his words. I am seeing Dylan this summer. First time. Can't wait.

Very true, I think few acts can compare to Springsteen. I mean a three and a half hour set of top quality performances and that too at his age. But I loved the fact that he's now taking requests from the crowd, what a great guy though it must be a nightmare for the rest of the band.

It's great to see when a musician really enjoys himself on stage. Bruce seems to love performing and all the things that go with it. Seeing him at least once live is on my 'to do' list.

Five star reviews from all the broadsheets in the UK! I'd never seen him live before but now I'm dying to see him again! And he never even played The River or Racing In The Street (two of my favourites) out of the 30 songs he played yet I completely forgot about it. He played two full band versions of Atlantic City and Johnny 99 from Nebraska which was a real treat as I didn't expect anything from that album to be played.
Also, another great surprise was It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City from Greetings From Asbury Park (note: there's a great cover of this from David Bowie) and The E Street Shuffle.

i only know "born in the usa" and the christmas song by springsteen. is he worth a listen? if so, which album is the best to start with? I would start with Born In The USA (1984) or Born To Run (1975). Both are quite direct albums and gets you into his greatness

Springsteen like Dylan will still be releasing acclaimed music and touring when he hits 70 and longer.
Not many artists out there you can say that about.
I'd kill to see Leonard Cohen live as well!
