Question: Who listens to Planet Rock Radio? Better question: Who even still listens to the radio? #ItsEvolutionBaby Exactly, why are we even debating what this radio station that hardly anyone has heard of says?

I live near the New York City area and the saddest part of this is all the rock radio stations are dead except Q104.3. Isn't NYC supposed to be one of the meccas for music? We only have 1 rock station? Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! So many got killed off over the last 3-5 years. Such a downer. I've heard better music used in commercials and movie trailers than what is being played on the radio in the New York City market.

Thank you sheesh Bruno sheesh that was hard ,lol. Here is my list of most influential bands with a explanation as to why INFLUENCE is the reason they are on it no order so no debating order please but for fucks sake ill put Beatles at top Beatles- they were a reason most bands wanted to play rock ,,not all mind you page beck and Clapton all wanted to play rock by listening to American early blues and American 50s rock Led zep- quite simply is the reason you hear rock on American radio every time you hear a power ballad ,metal, straight rock , or blues rock zep did first did it best Rolling Stones- no need to explain The clash/sex pistols - putting them together punk was born in the uk though the clash of course evolved into much more than punk Ramones - American punk was born when they came along Dylan- if there is no Dylan in rock there is no Springsteen or any other solo artist who writes not only music but tells stories Pink Floyd- they didn't invent the concept album but they perfected it and are the reason other bands try to make them. The who - know band ever really sounded like the who to me but they really inspired Paul weller along with the Beatles so they go in for the jam alone Nirvana- not a huge nirvana fan and there were bands before them in Seattle but much like zep after they broke everybody in America wanted to start a garage band drink coffee mope around depressed and move to Seattle that my friends is INFLUENCE I say much like zep because like zep bands after them wanted to be them I know that's 9 influential genres but i put clash and pistols together so that's ten bands Notice I tried to put different types of rock styles so I omitted bands like purple sabbath and such because zep already played that style in my hard category jmo hope some approve if not what the fuck its my opinion Kalas, I love your Nirvana reasoning. The first album I ever bought was Nevermind on cassette! It was 1992. Nirvana was officially massive. People from Seattle, to New York all the way down to Florida bought that record. It was on every radio station, music television network and magazine. Even soccer moms were listening to Nirvana. Wild times. That's influence.

We all know what a massive influence Nevermind was on Definitely Maybe as well. Didn't Noel call DM, England's Nevermind? Something to that effect. Thank you Kurt!

This is more like a contextual influence, regarding only the concept and lyrical idea of the song. And then again, it wasn't a musical influence, but an answer, a reaction, opposition. Noel himself said in an interview that Live Forever was written after listening to a certain song, can't remember which was it (it wasn't nirvana, anyone remembers that interview??)

I believe it was Nirvana and that particular song as well. Noel said Kurt wrote such a downer of a song, he was inspired to write the complete opposite of emotion. Hence....Live Forever.

He said that he appreciates what Nirvana did for getting rock back on the radio and in the spotlight, but that he was never cool with the "I hate myself and I want to die" nonsense. To Noel, life was always about living, not dying. Live Forever!

The Beatles should be on the list. The Doors, The Beach Boys,Buddy Holly and The Crickets
solo artist like Elvis... I mean, he influenced the Beatles and known as "King of Rock and Roll" or "the King." Neil Young too or at least mentioned CSNY.. Most people forget Roy Orbison too.
Thinking what a gig it be The Who opened for The Doors. Imagine that gig at the Isle Of White festival in 1970. I did read somewhere that Jim & Roger Daltrey tried to match each other drink for drink match backstage and Roger drank Jim under the table. The Doors influenced many many band from Pearl Jam, The Cult, Franz Ferdinand, INXS, The Inspiral Carpets, The Blue Oyster Cult, Janes addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Divison, Interpol, MC5, Jesus and Marychain, Alice in Chains, NIN, Iggy Pop, Scott Stapp, Stone Temple Pilots and list goes on.....
Nirvana of course should been most likely mentioned. Van Halen possible too. Eddie Van Halen made finger tapping huge at the time. Tom Petty and Heartbreakers should be on there way before David Bowe. I mean, The Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers all pinched Tom Petty and Heatbreakers music. Listen to The Strokes Last Night to Tom Petty and Heartbreakers' American Girl. Tom Petty and Heartbreakers had a settle, but impact to music. Fleetwood Mac did too.
