Anyone here check out BRMC's new single "Let The Day Begin"? It has a classic Zeppelinish sound to it. I like it and I am going to be buying the album "Specter At The Feast" twice. I also enjoy the approach they're taking to prep for the album's release with the short films and all. Anyway let me know what you think of the track, shit? amazing? great? good? meh? Below is a link to the song.

They released a new song today, and I really like it. You can download it for free on their website, or just listen on Youtube.
I don't know how to insert a Youtube video in the post anymore.

Album has leaked. Very, very disappointing effort.
BRMC can do a few things very well. They can do swaggering, drawling mid-tempo (In Like The Rose). They can do fast, loud rock 'n' roll (Whatever Happened To...). They can do menacing, shuffling acoustic (Ain't No Easy Way). One thing they cannot do, however, is dull, plodding, droning, whiney, seemingly endless and downright BORING songs. Guess which of the above makes up the best part of Specter At The Feast? There are a few from the other categories but the best song on the album (for my money Fire Walker) probably wouldn't make my top 30 BRMC songs. Grr.

Glad I saw your post. Had no idea it leaked. The album is a little disappointing, I must say. "Hate the Taste" is f'ing awesome though. Hopefully their next album is better. They've been through a lot recently and I'm sure they'll come back stronger. Still some good sounds on this record, but overall I'd say I'm let down. On first listen I'd rate the whole thing at a 6/10 though it was a choppy first listen. Might go a bit higher on repeated listens.

I'm really enjoying the album, very good to me. Some Kind of Ghost and Sometimes the Light are the only bad songs, all of the rest is great.
Lose Yourself is a masterpiece.

I'm surprised BRMC gets so little love here. This thread is straight up dead.
I've gone through the album a few more times and really warmed up to it. I tend to skip 'Returning', 'Rival' and 'Teenage Disease'. The rest of it is really enjoyable. 'Hate the Taste' is still far and away my favorite, but I also really enjoy 'Firewalker', 'Lullaby', 'Some Kind of Ghost' and 'Lose Yourself'.
Another solid effort from the guys. As someone mentioned above, the record does have a 'down' vibe to it, if you will. Have a feeling the next one will be a little more in your face. Either way, I still consider them the best band going right now.

Just started listening to the album and I really like it so far. I'm not that keen on Beat The Devil's Tattoo. It's too groovy and... heavy, for my taste I think. It has some really great songs, but I'm glad this album sounds a little bit different. Time will tell if it's a better album. But it have started out great. I'm on 'Hate The Taste' at the moment, and it's my first listen, so my opinion will probably change in the future.

I miss the melodies...
But! The most memorable songs after just one listen has to be 'Lullaby' and particularly 'Lose Yourself', which sounds mega!

Not keen on it initially, they've gone heavy on the production.
The songs and melodies are definitely there though, it just takes a few listens until they're stuck in your head.
Lullaby is great, I've figured it out for guitar it's very easy:
You are the salt of the earth... G, Cadd9 G.
I will walk till I have no shadow... D, Cadd9, G

I've already pre-ordered the album, so I hope you're right, and that the songs and the melodies will grow on me. Recordstore.co.uk have signed copies of the album, so for those of you who want to pre-order the album I can recommend them. Thanks for the chords, btw. Will give it a try later. It's a nice tune.

Yeah I kind of felt the same way as you Swarfiga on my first listen, but it's gotten much better since then.

The album is not very memorable, on first listen. A lot of the songs tend to blend into each other and it's hard to tell them apart. The "Let the Day Begin" cover seems to have the best melody of the lot, which is disappointing.
Did anyone else get a Black Keys vibe on some of the songs? I did.

The album is growing. I love Fire Walker, Returning, Lullaby, Rival and Lose Yourself. I really hope the iTunes bonus tracks will be available to buy separately. Really want to hear them, but I don't want to buy the whole album one more time.

It's not an album I see myself returning to very often.
The sequencing is a bit off too; three generic "Conscience Killer" rip offs (given that Conscience Killer is a poor man's Six Barrel Shotgun anyway) followed by two Spiritualized clones.
Produced to the nth degree, Robert doing his "emoting" voice and Peter phoning it in.
Their track at the end of Sound City is better than anything on this album, mainly because it sounds like they plugged in and played it rather than over thought it.
Still looking forwards to seeing them live though.
