One of the most underrated British bands over the past 30 years. Signed to Creation,Three top songwriters in one band and Singers too plus they were one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands. They are just like Big star (which they are hughly indebt to as well).
Bandwagonesque Grad Prix and Songs from Northern Britain are three excellent albums
Any fans on here? If not go to youtube as all their albums are up.

I remember when SPIN magazine ranked Bandwagonesque as the best album of 1991. Bonus question: Does anyone even still read SPIN?

I haven't read it in ages however. The banner of this forum with Noel and Liam on the couch is actually from a Spin magazine photoshoot in December 1999. I still have that issue. Loads of great albums came out in 1991 by artists like Nirvana, REM, Pearl Jam, Pixies, Teenage Fanclub, etc. Below is a link to an article breaking down the top 20 list from 1991 but 20 years later. www.spin.com/articles/spins-20-best-albums-1991

I had a few songs of theirs that I downloaded about a decade ago when I was 16.
I liked the few (and I do mean literally few) tracks I had. But I never expanded. Until now.
Just spent $6 on Bandwagonesque. Not bad going.

"Bandwagonesque" was the first CD i ever bought...it is a TOTAL CLASSIC. Everyone should have that record.....it's sort of like the pre-Definitely Maybe era rock and roll album of the indie world.......just brilliant beginning to end.
"A Catholic Education" (Debut album) was great too....but a big grungier. The 3rd and 4th albums ("Grand Prix and "Songs From Northern Britain") are both excellent too.
I could never really get into their records after that though....kinda went all 'lite rock'.

The new Teenage Fanclub album 'Endless Arcade' is out on April 30. I already preordered it.
I listened to 'Thirteen' recently. It's a very underrated record.

One of the most underrated british bands ever (and one of my absolute favorites too ). 3 great melodists in the same band, that's gotta be a plus to write gems. "Bandwagonesque", "Grand Prix" and "Songs From Northern Britain" are their greatest works I think, the best songwriting is in those three albums. But there are great songs in pretty much every album they made, the exception probably being "Here" (I like Norman's I'm In Love though). About their new album, I'm not totally hyped tbh, since Gerry is no longer in the band. For me, it's almost like an Oasis album without Liam or Noel.
