I read it in Rolling Stone and just dowloaded it for confirmation. The intro to Ashlee Simpsons song Beautifully Broken is a blatant rip off of Wonderwall. Possibly more of the song as well but I couldn't bare to listen. It's one thing for proper musicians to borrow from eachother, but pop acts shouldn't be stealing from bonafide rock acts.

I don't really hear it. The chords and the rhythm are different...

Like I said, I understand bonafide bands borrowing from eachother. I just don't like pop acts like Ashlee Simpson swiping stuff.

I also only think there are some elements which are similar

I just think that stealing something simple is fine, but ripping off a lot is discredits a musician
I want to set something straight about Noel here. Everyone seemingly criticises him for stealing. He doesn't. He takes a simple riff and then moves on. There are components from many many artists, but in the end the song is Oasis' tune plain and simple.
All this nonsense about Noel ripping the Beatles really pisses me off. For the population who do this, they likely only know "What's the Story Morning Glory", so the material on there doesn't warrant much when you're talking about stealing ideas. The blatant take from Imagine is really the only part of the album that's really been taken. And it's made so obvious that it's seriously not worth criticising. Noel doesn't hide the fact that he takes his inspirations and inserts them into his tuens.
But I will ask... what else on the album sounds like it's written by the Beatles?? Really.... She's Electric would be the only one in my mind. Roll With It has its moments, but Hey Now!, Hello, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say, Cast No Shadow, Morning Glory, and Wonderwall really bare no resemblance ANYTHING by the fab four in my mind. And I'm a huge Beatles fan.
I know that was a long rant, but I mean, it's fair game when Noel isn't saying he doesn't take hooks.
Ashlee Simpson is nonsense anyhow!! I don't listen to her tunes so I don't fucking care if it sounds like Wonderwall.

The difference is when that song came out most people would've agreed that Oasis were or had the potential to be on the same level as the Beatles/Lennon, something I venture to say that Ashlee Simpson has not yet done. But this is a good thing. It should gain Oasis at least a few more fans, wanting to know where that sound came from. And if someone years from now hears Wonderwall for the first time on the radio and complains they're just ripping off Ashlee Simpson, we can smack them upside the head.

I've listened to Imagine hundreds of times. I've listend to DLBIA hundreds of times. I"ve never noticed that piano similarity until now that I've read this thread. The two songs are like comparing apples and oranges. Or, more like apples and asparagus- they are so different.

To the person commenting on WTSMG: She's Electric actually rips off a kinks song. I THINK it's wonderboy... Im not sure I have to look again, but the line "I'll be you and you'll be me" is in the Kinks song "I'll see you and you'll see me" and its exactly the same melody as the She's electric line, I mean exactly. It's not a bad thing, just an obvious homage to a song that Noel likes.

EXAC-A-TiGLY Revolver.. thank you well said.. and furthermore it is Noel who is often targeted and NOT other artists i.e. Nirvana, nothing against em but they borrowed /were inspired by many lesser known groups.. ie the vasolines etc.
