I finally finished watching Mind Games on Netflix last night and I enjoyed it but I'm not sure if they'll do anymore. After that I watched episode three of Grace on BritBox which was also good.

Beyond Evil which I started watching on Netflix last night. I've only watched the first two episodes as each episode is over an hour long.

My takeaway from Stranger Things is that the lead actress already had plastic surgery. They all have this strange Bella hadid face, very spooky

My takeaway from Stranger Things is that the lead actress already had plastic surgery. They all have this strange Bella hadid face, very spooky I'm almost done with season 4, just one more episode. It started off strongly, but the latest episodes have been a bit boring, sadly. Too many side stories who don't go anywhere. Also, it has a tiff of torture porn! If I have to watch one more scene of X being beaten up ...
The most fascinating thing at the moment for me how those kids grew up!
Oh, and Jonathan still has great taste in music, I saw an REM poster in his room and remember him listening to Joy Division in the first season.

I've just finished watching episode four of Grace on BritBox after trying for a few days without success as it kept coming up as video unavailable. Anyway, I've seen it now and we'll have to wait for the next series now.

I'm still watching Beyond Evil on Netflix. It's not bad but it's not the best foreign police drama I've seen.

Watched Titanic for the first time this afternoon. Surprised myself by how much I enjoyed it. I even got choked up a few times, including at the scene with Rose and Jack on the prow of the ship. What's happening to me?

What's happening to me? James Cameron wanted to see the real titanic and made a blockbuster just to justify this trips underwater.

What's happening to me? James Cameron for you. A master of classic popcorn flicks, he'll get you to like it whether you want to or not.

With Titanic in particular you get the sense you're being manipulated to react in certain ways to what you're watching; but it doesn't matter because Cameron has the talent to actually draw out the desired emotions and engagement from his viewers, even while they can feel they're being manipulated. In that way he has something of Spielberg's genius.
James isn't my favourite filmmaker, but he sure can rise up to a challenge and deliver the goods as far as that kind of epic scale popcorn movie goes. That's why I wouldn't bet against him going supernova again with the Avatar sequels. If anyone can pull off the trick of making people care about going back to Pandora after 13 years it's him.

No likewise he's not my favourite, and the films he does do by all accounts should be ripe for a good kicking. The premises, plots and action scenes are just ridiculous on paper but my god he delivers a slam dunk every time. Just by nature, I prefer the original Alien to Cameron's Aliens, but they are two completely different films that serve different purposes. One is a horror with eerie quiet tension that scares the shit out of me, and the second is a typical Hollywood action film. Aliens is way more over the top and should sully the first one with its ridiculous set pieces and plot, but it only goes and enhances the entire franchise. Superb stuff. It's got to be in the natural ability to tell a story and just natural filmmaking techniques to draw you in, similar to Spielberg as you mention. Underneath the style there is a lot of substance to that filmmaking and much of it, in terms of timing, tension, editing, etc are just things that can't be learnt. If they could, then you'd see most Hollywood blockbusters delivering a slam dunk but outside of the likes of Cameron, 90% of them are really poorly made films regardless of their box office intake.

What's happening to me? Titanic is great. The second half has some of the best practical effects in movie history. Incredible to watch and it will still hold up in 50 years while all this cgi shit will age poorly.

The Jimmy Savile documentary on Netflix. What a creepy man, I absolutely did not understand how he was so popular, he was like a walking red flag There's been enough documentaries about him and what he really was like, he used his fame to hide behind his crimes and the same goes for Rolf Harris plus others.

Makes me sick The documentaries I've watched are mainly the ITV ones, the first one was when it all came out about it and then they did a more recent one. But he was an evil and horrible person. I haven't watched the one on Netflix but there was one on Discovery+ which I watched a few months ago now.
