This may have been discussed in another thread, but who thinks If I had a Gun is Noels best ever song?
Its been well over a year now and I still cant get enough of it, its an absolutly incredible song, every person ive played it too likes it even ones who dont particularly like oasis.
If I had one thing to say to noel it would be thank you for this timless classic, Ill be listening to it everyday till the day I die.
Cheers.

It's a very good song no doubt but best ever...No I don't think so, too many classics in the catalog for that prestigious title.

I can see why someone might find it his best ever, but in my personal opinion it's not. But i suppose my bias has more to do with everything I attach to different songs vs. If I Had A Gun.

Good song, not his best and not even the best song on High Flying Birds. I would give that honor to Everybody's On The Run or What A Life!

Honestly? I'd put it in my top 10. At least. Not the very best song he's ever written, but for me it's up there.

It's a great song-- probably the song I listen to most on NGHFB -- but I wouldn't say it's the best song Noel ever wrote. I do think it's one of the best love songs Noel has written; but still, not as powerful (at least lyrically) as Slide Away.

Great tune. I don't see it as Noel's best ever song but it would make my top five Noel love songs. Love the live acoustic version from the war child gig.

I think this song had serious potential to be one of the best ever. That abridged soundcheck version we were fortunate to have really captured a song on the brink of something amazing. While I love the album version, and enjoy the demo version, something was lost in the studio. The soundcheck is haunting and beautiful, but the studio version loses that mysterious allure that the soundcheck version provides. I think the studio album suffer from, not even over-production, but just being cramped in a studio. The demo is much more pure, but the effects on that aren't desirable. I really thought this song would benefit from real strings and I think Noel could slow it down a bit and carry out the vocal bridge between the last chorus. In the soundcheck he uses more vowel sounds, instead of just "Ahh," and I miss that in the studio version.
Sorry I rambled. But I basically think this song had much more potential than the released version we received. But my expectations are certainly unreasonable.

Not at all. This song had a lot of potential but I was very disappointed with the album version.

Thank you for your thoughts and opinions, I am an insane oasis fan and know each song like the back of my hand and yes the title of best song ever is a big call for sure but for me personally this song is my favourite. Love you noel!

Agreed with the sentiments that the studio version denegrated the song. A hybrid of the demo and the sound check version would have been ideal. The album version just fails to retain the sincerity the song needs, it's over-polished - it's like a rly pretty girl wearing too much makeup.

It sounds too Coldplay on the record, Sardy's production was pretty horrid for most of the work he did with Oasis/Noel. It's a decent enough tune though and has mass appeal

DBTT was far too loud and DOYS wasn't far out enough, if Noel's ever going to leave his comfort zone he'll need a different producer who's willing to try different things.
