Anyone else give this album a spin yet? We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic. I have listened to it twice now and really like what I hear. They incorporate a lot of styles into their material. Reminds me of Brian Jonestown Massacre to a small degree.
No Destruction video

They're big fans of Brian Jonestown Massacre. I like a few of their tunes, Shuggie comes to mind, but it doesn't really sound like they're trying to me. Kind of like throwing all of their favorite 60s records into a blending machine and serving us the mush. I've heard a few people compare them to MGMT, but I don't really hear any of the complexities in MGMT's music in Foxygen.
They're a young band, but I don't think they're as exciting as the press say they are, but I'm looking forward to seeing them support Unknown Mortal Orchestra in a few months!

I agree that they sound like a blending machine of mid 60s influences but I do really enjoy what I am hearing on their debut. I can vaguely see the MGMT comparisons on vocals only in some songs but it is not that pronounced to me. I read one review say they sound like the soundtrack to a Wes Anderson film. Not far off the mark. The best lyric on the album is this: "There’s no need to be an asshole, you’re not in Brooklyn anymore"

I think Temples is a tad more original.

I think Temples are better, have a more cohesive sound, but I really don't think they're more original.

I got We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic...
I dig it...reminds me of the band Television.
Without knowing anything about the band, I'm guessing they're based out of New York.
Thanks.

Thanks. First album was a real surprise back in 2013. Fun stuff. Their last album........eeeeehhhhhhhhhhh. They became like MGMT, shied away from the stuff that got people to talk about them. I mean MGMT completely lost the plot with their last two albums. What a waste. Foxygen is heading down that path sadly.

I truly believe this is the band of my generation...
... and this is the best new track I could have ever expected from any new band.
To adress the Brian Jonestown Massacre influence, I want to say, musically they are to the BJM what Maurice Ravel is to Richard Wagner. They sound more like the Anti BJM to me.
