I Still Can't Get Over, Just how perfect this album is, i wouldnt change one string arrangment, one lyric or one note, I honestly beleive that this LP has set the standereds for recorded music, imo Oasis will never top it, but neither will any other recording artist in my life time, better than the beatles? some say no, but this LP is better than anything the beatles have ever done, better than anything coldplay have ever done, and better than anything U2 have ever done (coming from a huge coldplay & U2 fan)
imo
the greatest collection of music, since music was born

I agree its better than anything the Beatles did, I mean Im not saying Noel is as talented as they were in terms of songwriting, I mean Macca, Lennon and Harrison were all better with words than Noel will ever be. Im a huge Bealtes nut, but if I could only listen to one album before I died, Id pick MG ahead of anything they did.
But then you have to remember, Noel was plundering from the last 40 years of popular music to make this masterpiece those guys didnt have as much to be influenced by, they were true pioneers.

Great, great, great, great album. But I'll always think Definitely Maybe is Noel's finest hour.

It is a great album, I mean it has the rockers, the ballads, the pop songs, the epics, all the great arrangements. it's truly amazing. I haven't listened to it in a while though...

Great, great, great, great album. But I'll always think Definitely Maybe is Noel's finest hour. I agree. Morning Glory isn't as fiery as Definitely Maybe. Definitely Maybe was loud, punky guitars with sneering vocals and this phenomenal attitude. Morning Glory might have had some songs that were better, but it didn't have the same aggression. DM was like an explosion, whereas MG was more like the weaker aftershock. Or something. I'm full of bullshit today.

Noel's original plan was to have Step Out on the album. Do you guys think it would have benefitted from that? I think one Noel song is good. If anything, put Acquiesce on there. That gives it 11 songs which is great. Almost a perfect album, I love it. Hasn't been topped yet in the last 10 years.

I I wouldnt change one string arrangment, Actually there are no strings on the album..... it's all done by Bonehead and Noel on the mellotron And to address the comments from DM vs. WTSMG: They are difficult to compare cos there is such a variance in sound between them..... Essentially the musical quality of the songs on DM are a bit better, there is definitely a LOT of maturity gained for WTSMG

I guess the biggest criticism you could apply to Morning Glory would be that some of the songs are kind of generic modern-rock. Don't get me wrong. It's an incredible album. One of the few I can listen to from start to finish. Even some of the all-time greats - Rubber Soul, for example - have two or three tracks that I always skip. Morning Glory that's never the case. Still, I suppose the difference between DM and MG is that on DM every single song had something unique going for it. Each track had their own vibe, something great and distinct about them. With Morning Glory, that's not necessarily the case. I mean, you've got Wonderwall, DLBIA, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory, Some Might Say, Cast No Shadow... and the rest - Roll With It, Hello, Hey Now! - are a little generic. Still catchy mind you. Very enjoyable, catchy, perfectly good album filler, but nothing amazing, that's all. As for She's Electric - it's a great track, but personally I really wish Noel had come up with a line other than "she's got a cousin/in fact she has got 'bout a dozen/she's got one in the oven." I mean, come on! I know it's supposed to be humorous, but seriously How about something like "She's got a cousin/He likes to buy eggs by the dozen/Now he's making a cake in the oven/But it's nothing to do with me." I also wish they had some drunken-pub-dialogue in the intro to that song like they have for Bonehead's Bank Holiday. But that's just nitpicking. I suppose I have a couple other criticisms - Hey Now! is a little overlong - there's no need for that reprise of the first verse, it should just end right there and nobody would complain about it. Also, a couple tracks are a little too muddy sounding and could use better definition. Oh, and Hello! should have been more pounding, with really powerful drums. Ah, but I really AM nitpicking. What is there really to say? All around a great album and Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? are the among the best - maybe the best - one-two punch of the '90s.

You know what? I only have ONE gripe with Morning GLory, and it's not even a gripe, as the album I think is practically perfect (for me it's better than DM - maybe less fiery but more accomplished and with many more layers).
I often thin kit would have been ideal if Acquiesce had replaced Hello at the beginning of the record. I know Hello is great but I think it would have made a better B-side. BECAUSE...
Then the album could have started with that plaitive acoustic version of Noel singing "What's the story morning glory, weeellllll..." and then the big chords kick in. That would have been mega, like a concept album or something! The song turns up acoustically at the beginning and then in mega rock form later on.
I actually think Noel had this idea himself but was too married to having Hello as track 1 on the 2nd album, so there's no Acquiesce but that's why there are those few quiet bars of Wonderwall just before Hello kicks in.
Thoughts?

How many million albums WTSMG sold? I've sometimes heard about 16 millions and other times more than 20.

Lisa,
I would have just added Acquiesce on to the album. I think 'Hello' is sooo underrated. I like it way more than 'Roll With It'.
There was no need for the tidbit of Swamp Song or the additional noise before Champagne.
Maybe take She's Electric off and add Acquiesce to the front.
1. Hello (it is "Hello".......it should come first) 2. Acquiesce 3. RWI 4. WW 5. DLBIA 6. Hey Now 7. SMS 8. CNS 9. MG 10. CS

i agree with dom. MG is perfect and in 10 years no one has been able to top it. but how can anybody top an album with wonderwall, dlbia, champagne supernova, some might say, morning glory, she's electric, hello, roll with it...

WTSMG is one of the best albums of the rock era, and I say that from a MUSIC fan's standpoint, and not as an Oasis fan.
It is epic... almost to the point of a rock opera, like "Tommy" or something like that...
And you know something, I never thought about it, but to that person who said that WTSMG is better as a whole than any of The Beatles' ALBUMS, I think that is 100% correct, I never thought of that! The Beatles had 100's of great SONGS, but the albums always had at leat one weak song on it (even Sgt. Peppers with "Fixing A Hole")
Not one weak song on the album... not one.
I think it's great when someone makes a WTSMG thread from time to time so that we can all relive this incredible album...
And BTW, She's Electric is STILL one of my all-time favorite Oasis songs to sing along to! ;D

other ppl on this forum explained it MUCH better.. it was on one of revolver's threads about DBTT as a collection of songs.. as opposed to WTSMG.. WTSMG just flows together PERFECTLY.... Like Dix, I well remember the 1st time i heard it.. I WAS MESMORIZED literally.. as a compliment to Noel and oasis.. it was everything i heard before and BRAND NEW and distinct all at the same time.. and I don;t sit around and wait for a WTSMG sequel.. it wld just be IMPOSSIBLE..
