I remember talk early into NGHFB that Noel couldn't pull off those power ballads (LBL, DLBIA, etc) like he did a decade prior. He did seem quiet, meek, and timid during DOYS into NGHFB (whether that was a mic problem and/or something more, I don't know).
While this is far from my favorite LBL performance (Finsbury Park 2002 FTW), it's probably Noel's most passionate rendition for awhile - the verses in Manchester 2005 were inaudible, for example.
In fact, his entire iTunes Festival 2012 performance was faultless.
What was the problem in recent years? Was his mic too low? Was he trying something new and/or lacking confidence as a solo artist? Did he work on regaining his power?
I do love seeing and hearing that passion in Noel's voice. The second time he sings "take that look from off your face" in DLBIA is always epic.

I don't know I think he's pretty much sounded the same since 2005, with the tiniest edge of rapiness creeping into some of the HFB shows

I think it's a host of things and much of it can be seen in the Itunes gig. For one thing his mic might be a bit higher and rather than bending over using all of his back, he's bending his legs more. This makes him much less hunched over. In the Itunes gig there are many more instances of him standing straight and tall, in a confident position where he's projecting. So he's really attacking the mic vocally.
Another thing is that he's moving a bit more and also there's more eye contact with the audience. I think the things that we see with our eyes many times influences what we hear and when someone looks confident when they're singing, then that does help in our perception of how they sound.
Vocally I think he is more confident than he was at the beginning of this tour. I think he was so concentrated on giving good vocal performances from night to night that it might have taken a bit of fun out of it and made him a bit more tense. I think that now that he's been doing it for awhile, he's been a lot more looser, less tense, and more confident, and it comes through in his vocals and overall performance.

He's singing every song in every show. Practice makes perfect and that.

He was the best singer in oasis for the last few years of the band. He wasn't perfect at the start of the tour (not used to singing full shows with a full band) but it never ruined the gigs. Now that he's used to it he sounds better. He'll be better on the next tour as well IMO.
