Ok. I LOVE Oasis. They are one of the last GREAT rock & roll bands in existence. I have a fetish for music, its truly my passion, and Oasis is truly an extraordinary group. But... I looked around this forum, and decided to sign up just to ask this question. You all realize that MANY of there songs are inspired by Crystal Meth addiction right?  I'm only 18, but Ive known that since I first got "WTSMG" in 1997. Is it just not brought up in the forums? or is there a kinda mutual 'speak no evil' kinda thing goin on? I read quite a few posts by people (referring to WTSMG) talking about the title track lyrics "where were you when we getting' high". and they were innocently discussing the songs references to pot smoking. THATS NOT WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND. I realize that it's not as blatant as Greenday's references to their own super-Speed addiction but, The Hindu Times is not about getting stoned off pot, its about ingesting manic amounts of Crystal meth. Obviously right??? |

Errr… Crystal Meth? I always thought all Oasis' drug references were specifically about cocaine and/or ecstacy. Nothing too fancy. And I never thought they were being all that coy about it, either.

OK... I am in no way trying to make you wrong, or put down the best song on this CD. This song is a euphoric rock ballad, written to the drug that chains him to the mirror and the razor blade, and gets him so high he just cant feel it..
Speed is the most addictive and powerful drug that is 100% man made. It is also the longest lasting, and most mentally addictive of ANY stimulant. & The title of the album is Heathen Chemistry Which is pretty much the dead give away as to his inspiration when he wrote the song (whole album?) (every album?). Greenday has advertised their Meth. usage for years, and it didn't stop American Idiot from topping the US charts for a long time.
Cocaine is a very short high (like a euphoric numbness) that wears off in about 40min max. Afterward the user has to tripple or quadruple the amount to stay satisfied for another 40 or so. While speed lasts for AT LEAST 15 hours, and has the EXACT same neuro-chemical effect as caffeine, but is EASILY 300X's more potent. It provides more than enough energy to party like a rock star for as long as you can keep taking it. But produces an ungodly comedown. "need a little time to wake up? You know you should so I guess you might as well..."
If you think I might have a point, go and download "Blvd. of Wonderwalls" off a file sharing program. Its the 2 songs dubbed together, and its actually pretty amazing.
Blvd. of Broken Dreams is probably the biggest song about meth addiction ever. You'll hear the same theme in both songs. "You might be the one that saves me.." "I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known.."

I don't think so
If they were Crystal Meth addicts, it would have been mentioned at some point by now.
Noel and Liam are just too brutally honest about this sort of thing to never have mentioned anything about it.
I think that you're reading too much into the songs.

true noel's tunes in mid 90's - about drinking, shagging and doing drugs- quoting him...
noel's drug was coke - simple as that...
some pot and psychadelics...
~ gas panic about coke induced paranoia..
~hindu times was written to challenge travis' shiny happy upbeat songs.. take his sarcasm for what it's worth...

It's not about crystal meth. The only Oasis-related crystal meth story I ever heard (I thin kit was meth) was when they played the a gig in the US back in 94 and Liam, Bonehead, Guigsy etc got hold of some meth and were off their faces onstage. They fucked the gig up royally and Noel stormed off in disgust. Ringo Starr was in the crowd and got a bad impression of the group (hopefully now corrected by Zak :-))
As has been said above, Oasis's main drug was cocaine. Always was (aside from Guigsy who was a pothead and Liam also being a borderline alcoholic for a few years). I think you're wanting to read stuff about crystal meth into the songs more than any references actually being there, mate.

Crystal Meth seriously fucks up your appearance. Your teeth turn rotten. Your face forms "craters". You look 20 years older. Your voice goes to shit. Now, if anyone in Oasis has been addicted to Meth, we would most definitly know.

Crystal Meth is absoultely nuts.
The members of Oasis smoked pot, used psychadellics liek LSD, shrooms, ecstacy, (moreso in the early days), and of course, after becoming a huge succes, did coke-- with Noel becoming addicted. They all of course drank, with Liam loving alcohol.
I only heard that one crystal meth story that was already mentioned. You read too much into their stuff. If Oasis messed around with that shit a lot, they wouldn't be around today, and they would have talked about it

Apparently they (apart from Noel) were up all night on it, then did the gig still fucked with Liam doing it behind the speakers. Shambolic performance, big argument followed and Noel left the band with the tour float to go to Vegas (where he wrote Talk Tonight). As far as I know... |
