Pretty sure there was a thread about this (sure it was Aussie, can;t find it), but who here likes Mike Oldfield? I was going to bring this up after the Olympics opening ceremony when he performed, but watching that reminded me of what a musical genius he is.
He was 19 when he wrote the masterpiece Tubulur Bells. Plus he's got a whole range of other stuff he did, like the X Files theme tune and the theme tune to Blue Peter (children's show in UK). Remarkable stuff.

He's a true pioneer in the use of multi track recording...great discography

Delighted to see Webbie and Aussie both appreciating him! I think musical genius is so overused but I definitely think it's a term that applies to Oldfield. The great thing about him is that it's impossible to know what his next work will be like because he's so versatile.

Surely Noel was inspired by Mike Oldfield for this track (before he sued him for buying a house that was falling into the sea..). Right from the thunder at the start of the track, a trick used by Oldfield on Tubular Bells 3.
