As a Green Day fan (not as much lately as I was a few years ago, but still), I'm a little dissappointed by Oh Love. The sound is really good, but the melody is lacking - your review is pretty much spot on. Still, the first single doesn't have to be the best song, I remember hearing Know Your Enemy in 2009 and it was one of the worst songs on the album. The whole power pop thing definitely suits them, I hope the album has some better tunes on it, it could be a good one.

Wish Green Day would fuck off tbh.

Oh Love might be the most generic song I have ever heard.

If a generic pop-rock song isn't bad enough, they tried dance-punk for their second single...

Oh Love's all right, but it's true that the melody doesn't quite do what I think Billie Joe wanted, if he really was going for a power pop tune. Also, I actually like Kill The DJ. The surf guitars are really cool and the melody there is actually infectious.

From Green Day's "Dos," the new song "Ashley."
They stole the chorus from Supersonic! I am not making this up.

I actually like both new Green Day albums. Been listening to Uno for some time now and while it's certainly nothing groundbreaking, it's simple, catchy power pop/rock and that's good enough for me. Dos is a bit heavier but mostly goes in the same direction. The melodies are there, even though they're not that original, and there are lots of guitar solos ;D As for that song "Ashley"...if you're gonna steal from someone, might as well steal from the best

Remember when Green Day actually used to be good? No, me neither. I would have thought that you'd stay clear of a thread about a band you obviously dislike after your first post stating it. It's stupid how cool it has become to slate Green Day nowadays, I guess it's because 14-year old girls have started getting into them since American Idiot...which isn't the band's fault, their sound pretty much stayed the same since 1994. They might not be the most original rock band (neither were Oasis) but I don't see what's to hate about most of their music.

their sound pretty much stayed the same since 1994. not really... I used to listen to them a lot up until a few years back. Dookie is a great album. They seem to try to go back to that sound now. and I think they're failing miserably. They're not punky teenagers anymore. Warning was quite different. American Idiot was something else. It was somewhat original and they nailed it. But then they tried to make something similar with 21st Century Breakdown and it sucked big time. these 2 new albums are awful to me. idk, maybe my music taste has changed...

Of course the sound changed a little. Oasis' sound changed over the years as well - but neither Green Day nor Oasis ever changed their sound to fit the mainstream or anything like that. They just varied it a little. About the "They're not punky teenagers anymore" thing - I've heard some people say that and I do not get it at all. If the music is enjoyable, who cares how old the guy who wrote it is? Sure, they couldn't get away with punk lyrics and messages now (they don't really try), but the sound is fine for a 40-year old. I wouldn't care if the Gallaghers did another Definitely Maybe with 40, even though that was a very "young" album. Their new music is far from what I consider great or exceptional, they're not in my ten favorite bands or anything, but it's just entertaining. It's ok not to like it (of course), but I just hate it when people hate on Green Day like they're your average shit mainstream band.
